Job Description: Quality Control Manager - Heavy Civil Construction (Alaska Oil/Gas & Mining)
Position Overview: We are seeking a dedicated Quality Control Manager for our ISO certified heavy civil construction company that specializes in the Alaska Oil, Gas and Mining industry. This role is crucial in ensuring exceptional quality standards across all construction projects. As the Quality Control Manager, you will lead quality control efforts, manage a team of inspectors, and bring your expertise in welding qualifications, including the creation of welding procedures, (PQR, and WPS). Your role will encompass collaboration with stakeholders, adherence to regulations, and guaranteeing project excellence.
Responsibilities:
- Quality Control Leadership:
- Develop, implement, and refine comprehensive quality control procedures tailored to the unique demands of the oil and gas/mining industry.
- Oversee the evaluation of construction processes, materials, and workmanship, ensuring strict compliance with project specifications, industry benchmarks, and regulatory prerequisites.
- Conduct meticulous inspections and audits to detect deviations and implement timely corrective actions.
- Write QC plans with ITPs for client submittal
- Welding Procedure Management:
- Leverage your welding expertise to create, review, and refine welding procedures, ensuring they align with project requirements and industry standards.
- Develop Welding Procedure Qualification Records (PQR) and Welding Performance Qualifications (WPQ) to verify the welders' capabilities.
- Collaborate with welding inspectors and engineers to guarantee the effective implementation of welding processes.
- Track welder certifications and continuity
- Team Management:
- Lead a proficient team of quality control inspectors, providing mentorship, training, and performance assessments.
- Coordinate daily tasks, allocate responsibilities, and maintain a cohesive team focused on project goals.
- Collaboration and Compliance:
- Engage actively with project managers, engineers, contractors, and clients to establish clear quality benchmarks and standards throughout all project phases.
- Participate in strategic project planning, embedding quality prerequisites into project blueprints.
- Documentation and Progress Reporting:
- Maintain an accurate repository of quality control activities, encompassing test outcomes, inspection reports, and corrective action logs.
- Generate scheduled and ad-hoc reports that outline quality metrics, trends, and recommendations for enhancements.
- Continuous Improvement:
- Continuously identify avenues for optimizing processes and implement cutting-edge practices to enhance the overall quality control framework.
- Stay abreast of industry trends, regulations, and advancements in quality control methodologies, particularly in welding.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field. Master's degree is advantageous.
- A minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in quality control or assurance within heavy civil construction, with a distinct focus on the Alaska Oil and Gas Market and mining industry.
- Profound familiarity with welding processes, complemented by demonstrated proficiency in crafting welding procedures, PQR, and WPS.
- Previous experience managing and leading quality control inspector teams.
- Exceptional communication abilities, facilitating effective collaboration across diverse stakeholders and the delivery of clear presentations.
- Keen attention to detail, with a proven track record in identifying and addressing quality irregularities.
- Proficiency in utilizing quality control tools, software, and documentation systems.
- Adept problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to tackling challenges.
- Relevant certifications, such as Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) and Certified Quality Manager (CQM), are highly desirable.
- Flexibility to work in demanding environments and adapt to the distinctive requirements of Alaskan construction projects.
