The Sandwich Public Schools (Forestdale School) is looking for a Reading Specialist for the 2026-2027 school year.
Qualifications:

DESE Reading Specialist Licensure required.

Master's degree in Elementary or Reading required.

Classroom teaching experience, at least 5 years preferred
Essential duties and responsibilities:
Supporting Tier II and Tier III Reading Instruction

Provide diagnostic, prescriptive and evaluative services for identified students, upon request.

Provide individual and small group instruction for identified students.

Monitor progress of all students receiving reading intervention support by keeping records and analyzing data to determine if instruction is accelerating progress.

Interpret longitudinal data regarding reading program strengths and weaknesses.

Assist teachers in instructing students in need of specialized instruction.

Collaborate with school and district administration on how to best meet the needs of the students.

Consult with members of the student support team, IEP team, and case conferences as requested.

Participate in appropriate building/district meetings and/or committees, including curriculum reviews.

Plan and conduct in-service workshops about various types of reading instruction.

Embrace continuous improvement through professional growth activities.

Work collaboratively with Special Education staff, Assistant Superintendent, Curriculum Office, and district- and building- based leadership teams.

Collaborate with other support services within the district (Special Education, Title I, ELL Program) to coordinate school and district wide reading efforts.

Effectively communicate student needs, action plans, and performance with students, parents, and colleagues (oral and written).

Other duties as requested by the principal or Assistant Superintendent.

Expectations:

Deep and broad understanding of reading.

Experience and/or openness to training in multiple effective specialized instructional programs to teach reading.

Expertise in using and helping teachers leverage effective instructional and assessment practices that are informed by student data and learning trajectories.

Leadership skills necessary to influence and support educational efforts to improve teaching and learning.

If applicable, skills necessary to guide and support full or part-time ESPs engaged in intervention.
COMPENSATION: Per the Collective Bargaining Agreement located on the Sandwich website.
