Soft Goods Department Lead
Position Summary
The Soft Goods Department Lead is responsible for the daily operation, organization, merchandising, and profitability of the Soft Goods department. This position oversees ordering, receiving, inventory management, pricing, merchandising, stock replenishment, and department presentation for apparel, textiles, accessories, and other soft goods merchandise. The Department Lead provides leadership and direction to department employees, maintains vendor relationships, and ensures customers receive outstanding service in a well-organized and appealing shopping environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Inventory & Product Management
- Order merchandise from multiple vendors to maintain appropriate inventory levels and product assortment.
- Monitor sales trends, seasonal demand, and inventory levels to optimize purchasing decisions.
- Receive, inspect, and verify incoming shipments for accuracy, quality, and condition.
- Report and resolve issues involving damaged, missing, or incorrect merchandise.
- Maintain accurate inventory records and conduct regular inventory counts and audits.
- Manage product replenishment to ensure adequate stock levels on the sales floor.
- Track slow-moving inventory and assist with markdown and clearance strategies.
Merchandising & Department Presentation
- Price merchandise accurately and ensure timely implementation of price changes.
- Create attractive displays and merchandise presentations that drive sales and enhance the customer experience.
- Arrange merchandise according to company standards, seasonal themes, and promotional initiatives.
- Ensure sales floor displays, racks, shelving, and stock areas remain clean, organized, and fully stocked.
- Rotate merchandise and update displays regularly to maintain a fresh shopping environment.
Leadership & Team Development
- Provide day-to-day direction, supervision, and support for employees assigned to the Soft Goods department.
- Delegate tasks effectively and monitor completion to ensure department goals are achieved.
- Train employees on merchandising standards, inventory procedures, customer service expectations, and department operations.
- Foster a positive, team-oriented work environment through effective communication and leadership.
- Address routine employee concerns and communicate significant issues to management.
Vendor Relations
- Develop and maintain productive relationships with vendors and supplier representatives.
- Coordinate orders, returns, credits, and promotional opportunities with vendors.
- Evaluate product performance and identify opportunities to expand or improve merchandise selection.
- Work with vendors to support seasonal displays, special events, and promotional campaigns.
Customer Service
- Deliver exceptional customer service and product knowledge.
- Assist customers with product selection, sizing, availability, and recommendations.
- Resolve customer concerns promptly and professionally.
- Support store initiatives aimed at enhancing customer satisfaction and loyalty.
Operational Responsibilities
- Assist with department planning, budgeting, and sales initiatives.
- Monitor department performance and identify opportunities for increased sales and profitability.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and safety standards.
- Participate in store-wide events, promotions, and special projects as needed.
- Perform other duties related to retail operations as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Previous retail experience required; leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
- Experience in apparel, gifts, textiles, accessories, or other soft goods merchandise preferred.
- Strong organizational, planning, and inventory management skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to lead, motivate, and support a team.
- Proficiency with point-of-sale and inventory management systems.
- Ability to work independently and make sound decisions.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Ability to lift and move merchandise weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to bend, reach, stoop, and climb ladders as necessary.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, holidays, and special events.

Pay: $13.00 - $15.00 per hour
