The Central Texas Food Bank (CTFB) is the largest hunger-relief organization in Central Texas and a proud member of the Feeding America network. Position Overview
This position will be responsible for the development and execution of all activities involved in providing culinary training to enrolled students as well as occasional staff training. The ability to speak in public, conduct effective demonstrations, and execute learning activities in addition to physical work is required in the kitchen.
Relationships
Building and maintaining collaborative and meaningful relationships is a core component of this position. Reporting to the Director of Food Production, this position is a highly visible position internally and externally and requires polished verbal and written communication. Proven and demonstrated professionalism and effective communication skills to achieve goals are necessary for this role.
Your Qualifications
- Have a minimum of 3 years of experience in the culinary field or have been a chef instructor or trainer for culinary/kitchen staff
- Have completed a formal culinary training program
- Ability to verbalize and demonstrate mastery of technical culinary skills
- Food Manager’s Certification required, (NRAEF ServSafe or Austin/Travis County recognized program)
- Excellent communications skills, both written and verbal, including the ability to effectively speak in public
- Demonstrated ability to teach others in a constructive and positive manner.
- Ability to work effectively with food bank staff, volunteers and vendors with a commitment and desire to go the extra mile to make the Food Bank kitchen program a success.
- Excellent project management skills
Your Responsibilities
Supervise and coordinate culinary training activities, including ongoing development of lesson plans and assessment materials; provide weekly lectures, demonstrations, hands-on activities and periodic testing and assessment of students, and occasional field trips

Establish competencies and standards for each lesson plan and assessment methods
- Provide equipment orientation and ongoing training to students to assure a safe environment for staff, students, culinary externs and volunteers
- Evaluate and interview student applicants, supervise daily activities providing constructive feedback and disciplinary actions when necessary, and plan and execute graduations ceremonies
- Ensure HACCP and other food and physical safety standards are maintained by students; this will include providing food safety training and testing to students

Provides coaching in the moment and performance feedback to students in a timely manner

Schedule guest chefs for presentations and hands-on training activities

Adhere to all Central Texas Food Bank policies, food safety standards and HACCP plans.

Maintain student program files, computer and hard copy in a confidential manner; maintain temperature, production, receiving, trash and cleaning and sanitation logs as required

Monitor regular inventory (chemicals, food, etc.) and communicate appropriately when orders need to be placed.

Also included in inventory tasks is making sure that inventory is pulled for class, any Value-Added Meals produce are placed into inventory in the freezer, receiving of product weekly and placing that product into inventory in the appropriate location (dry aisle, dairy cooler, freezer or kitchen) and maintaining the kitchen cooler in an organized manner
