Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Mohs Medical Assistant to join our dynamic dermatology and surgical team. In this vital role, you will support the Mohs surgeon twice per month on two Fridays, throughout the skin cancer removal process, ensuring smooth operations, maintaining sterile environments, and delivering exceptional patient care. Your expertise in medical procedures, surgical assistance, and patient support will contribute to successful outcomes and positive patient experiences. Responsibilities
- Assist the Mohs surgeon during skin cancer excisions, including pre-operative preparation and post-operative care
- Prepare and sterilize surgical instruments and medical equipment in accordance with infection control protocols
- Collect accurate patient data, including vital signs, medical history, and current medications, ensuring comprehensive medical records
- Maintain a sterile environment using aseptic techniques during all procedures to prevent healthcare-associated infections
- Support the collection of tissue samples for histopathological analysis and ensure proper labeling and documentation
- Monitor patient vital signs throughout procedures, providing immediate assistance in case of adverse reactions or emergencies
- Manage electronic health record (EHR) systems to document procedures, treatment plans, and patient interactions efficiently
Qualifications
- Proven experience as a Medical Assistant with specialized knowledge in surgical assistance or dermatology settings
- Familiarity with Mohs surgery procedures, including handling surgical instruments and tissue processing
- Strong understanding of anatomy, physiology, infection control practices, and aseptic techniques
- Experience with hospital or clinic environments that involve trauma care or acute care settings such as Level I or Level II trauma centers is highly desirable
- Proficiency in operating medical equipment sterilization devices and understanding of surgical instrument management
- Knowledge of EMR/EHR systems such as Modernizing Medicine for accurate documentation and record keeping
- Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) is required; additional certifications in suturing or advanced cardiac life support are a plus
- Excellent analysis skills combined with compassionate patient care abilities to support diverse patient needs across pediatric, adult, and geriatric populations
