SCHOOL SECRETARY
Position Description
QUALIFICATIONS:

High School diploma, preferably some secretarial training.

Must have previous secretarial experience including organizational skills, office management and ability to meet and work with staff, students and public.

Must be computer literate and ability to type at least 60 words per minute with reasonable accuracy.

Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
REPORTS TO: Principal or his/her designee.
TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: 12 months per school calendar. WORKING HOURS: 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM with 1 hour unpaid lunch.
JOB GOAL: To assure the smooth and efficient operation of the school office so that the office's maximum positive impact on the education of children can be realized.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

Performs the usual office routines and practices associated with a busy yet productive and smooth
running office.

Directs and assists in typing memos, correspondence, bulletins, lists, requisitions, budgets,
statistical reports, student records and other materials.

Receives and routes all incoming calls.

Maintains a daily staff attendance log and forms.

Responds to inquiries from parents, students, teachers and administrators with information of a
routine nature.

Maintains financial, statistical and other records.

May handle money or oversee the work of others.

Assists with the school register as directed by the Principal.

Oversees all incoming and outgoing mail.

Responsible for inventorying the supply room.

Responsible for ordering teaching supplies from the school warehouse.

Responsible for receiving, checking and distributing all purchase orders.

Maintains the permanent student record files.
-
May perform duties in the absence of the office clerk.

Performs other duties as assigned by the Principal.
