Position Summary
Lead Estimator is responsible for preparing detailed and accurate cost estimates for utility-scale solar projects, with primary responsibility for both civil and electrical scopes. This role leads the estimating process from initial bid review through final proposal. The Lead Estimator collaborates with internal teams, vendors, and subcontractors to develop competitive, comprehensive proposals that support successful project execution, profitability, and business growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Review bid documents, drawings, specifications, contracts, and RFPs to determine project scope and pricing requirements.
- Perform detailed quantity takeoffs for electrical & civil construction scopes.
- Solicit and evaluate vendor and subcontractor pricing.
- Prepare complete bid packages and estimate summaries for client.
- Identify project risks, exclusions, assumptions, and value engineering opportunities.
- Coordinate with engineering and operations to verify constructability and installation methods.
- Maintain estimating databases, labor productivity rates, and historical cost information.
- Assist with project turnover by communicating estimate assumptions and scope to project teams after award.
- Stay informed on market pricing, long lead items, labor trends, and renewable energy industry developments.
- Participate in pre-bid meetings, site visits, and internal estimate reviews.
- Ensure all estimates comply with company standards and project requirements.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field preferred (equivalent experience considered).
- 3+ years of estimating experience in electrical construction, utility-scale solar, BESS, or renewable energy.
- Strong understanding of utility-scale solar electrical systems.
- Experience interpreting electrical one-line diagrams, construction drawings, and specifications.
- Knowledge of NEC requirements and electrical construction practices.
- Strong proficiency with Microsoft Excel and estimating software.
- Excellent analytical, mathematical, and organizational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple estimates while meeting tight deadlines.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
- Valid driver's license with ability to travel occasionally.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience estimating utility-scale solar EPC projects.
- Experience with substations, collection systems, medium-voltage installations, and SCADA systems.
- Knowledge of Bluebeam, HeavyBid, HCSS, Accubid, ProEst, or similar estimating platforms.
- Field experience in electrical construction.
- Understanding of prevailing wage requirements and renewable energy contracting.

Pay: $100,000.00 - $200,000.00 per year
