Position Overview
The Cooking Class Steward plays a vital role in creating an exceptional experience for every guest at The Cutting Edge Classroom. This position is responsible for ensuring our instructional kitchens and facility are clean, organized, fully stocked, and ready for each class or event. Stewards work closely with Chef Instructors to prepare ingredients, assist during classes, provide outstanding customer service, and maintain the highest standards of food safety and cleanliness.
The ideal candidate enjoys working in a fast-paced kitchen environment, has a positive attitude, takes pride in their work, and enjoys interacting with people. This position is essential to providing a safe, professional, and memorable culinary experience for our guests.
Essential ResponsibilitiesGuest Experience
- Greet guests with a friendly, welcoming attitude.
- Check in guests using class rosters and verify completed waivers.
- Assist guests with questions and provide excellent customer service throughout the class.
- Serve beverages during classes as needed.
- Help create a fun, welcoming, and professional classroom atmosphere.
Food Preparation
- Prepare ingredients and recipes for cooking classes under the direction of the Chef Instructor.
- Measure, portion, and organize ingredients for classroom stations.
- Set up classroom workstations before each class.
- Restock ingredients and supplies as needed throughout class.
- Follow recipes accurately and efficiently.
- Assist Chef Instructors during demonstrations and hands-on activities.
Kitchen Operations
- Ensure classrooms are fully prepared before each class begins.
- Maintain clean, organized, and properly stocked workstations.
- Label and store all food according to Health Department regulations.
- Monitor refrigerators, freezers, and storage areas for cleanliness and organization.
- Maintain inventory organization of equipment, utensils, and supplies.
Cleaning & Sanitation
- Wash dishes, cookware, utensils, and equipment throughout and after class.
- Sweep and mop kitchen and classroom floors.
- Clean and sanitize all work surfaces, prep tables, sinks, and equipment.
- Empty trash and recycling throughout the shift and dispose of waste properly.
- Restock paper towels, soap, sanitizer, and other supplies throughout the facility.
- Clean and sanitize restrooms as needed.
- Dust and maintain the lobby, retail area, classrooms, and common spaces.
- Ensure the facility is clean, organized, and ready for the next class.
Safety & Compliance
- Follow all Knox County Health Department regulations and food safety procedures.
- Maintain safe food handling, storage, labeling, and sanitation practices.
- Report maintenance or safety concerns promptly.
- Follow all company policies and procedures.
- Complete the Steward Closing Checklist before leaving each shift.
Teamwork
- Support Chef Instructors and fellow staff members wherever needed.
- Assist with special events, private parties, and team-building programs.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by management.

- Basic cleaning and sanitation knowledge.
- Must successfully complete the Knox County Health Department Food Safety Course and Examination. and the Aim to Serve Alcohol service course.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and work on your feet for extended periods.
- Ability to work evenings and weekends as class schedules require.
