Role Description This is a full-time, on-site Legal Assistant role based in the Charleston, South Carolina . The Legal Assistant will support the attorney with daily administrative and legal tasks, including organizing files, maintaining calendars, scheduling appointments, and managing phone and email correspondence. Responsibilities include preparing and formatting legal documents, filing documents with courts and agencies, and assisting with case management and client intake. The role also involves communicating with clients, opposing counsel, and third parties in a professional manner, tracking deadlines, and ensuring that case records and databases remain accurate and up to date. The Legal Assistant will contribute to a smooth office workflow and provide reliable support to help move matters forward efficiently.
Qualifications
- Foundational knowledge of law and legal processes (family and criminal defense), with experience supporting Legal Assistants or similar roles.
- Proficiency in legal document preparation, including drafting, formatting, and proofreading filings, letters, and forms.
- Strong communication skills for interacting with clients, attorneys, courts, and third parties, both in writing and verbally.
- Administrative assistance skills, including scheduling, file management, data entry, and maintaining organized case records.
- High level of professionalism, discretion, and ability to handle confidential information responsibly.
- Strong attention to detail, time management, and ability to prioritize multiple tasks and deadlines.
- Comfort with common office and legal software (e.g., word processing, spreadsheets, case management systems).
- Prior experience in a law office or legal environment is preferred; an associate’s or bachelor’s degree in a related field is beneficial.
