Heavy Equipment Operator / CDL Class A Driver Mini Excavator & Skid Steer Operator
Travel Position - Eastern Tennessee
Long-Term Infrastructure Project
We are seeking an experienced Heavy Equipment Operator with extensive knowledge operating mini excavators and skid steers for long-term infrastructure and access road projects throughout Eastern Tennessee.
This position involves work in steep mountain terrain performing road grading, drainage repair, culvert installation, erosion control, and access road maintenance. Candidates must be dependable, safety-focused, and capable of working independently as well as with a crew.
Work Schedule
- Travel position throughout Eastern Tennessee
- Typical rotation:
- 3 to 4 weeks working out of town
- 1 to 1.5 weeks off
- Long-term project work available
Primary Responsibilities Equipment Operation
Operate and maintain:
- Mini excavators
- Skid steers
Must be able to:
- Grade and maintain access roads
- Spread rock and gravel
- Repair washouts
- Move and level dirt
- Shape and maintain road surfaces
- Operate equipment safely on steep and uneven terrain
Drainage & Water Control
Must have experience with:
- Redefining existing water control ditches
- Identifying drainage failures and determining root causes
- Repairing failed drainage systems
- Implementing preventative drainage solutions
- Building check dams
- Cleaning existing culverts
- Installing new culverts
- Establishing proper water flow into culverts
- Constructing and installing culvert headwalls
Vegetation & Ground Maintenance
Responsibilities also include:
- Operating hedge trimmers
- Using weed eaters
- Operating chainsaws
- Clearing vegetation from roadside ditches and access roads
CDL & Hauling RequirementsRequired:
- Valid Class A CDL
- Extensive experience hauling heavy equipment
- Experience driving and hauling equipment in mountainous terrain
Must be capable of:
- Safely hauling mini excavators and skid steers
- Properly loading and unloading equipment
- Securing loads safely and correctly
- Navigating steep and narrow mountain roads
Equipment Maintenance
Must demonstrate working knowledge of:
- Daily equipment inspections
- Checking and maintaining fluid levels
- Greasing pins and wear points
- Basic troubleshooting and field repairs
- Routine maintenance and servicing of:
- Mini excavators
- Skid steers
- Trailers and hauling equipment
Qualifications
- Strong experience operating mini excavators and skid steers
- Experience with grading and drainage work
- Ability to work safely in steep terrain
- Ability to work independently and with a team
- Dependable attendance and strong work ethic
- Must provide references
- Must pass:
- Mini excavator operator test
- Skid steer operator test
