Job Title: Transportation Coordinator
Reports To: Shelter Manager
Status: Part-Time: 20 Hours Weekly
Schedule: Flexible; candidate will need to flex shifts based on resident transportation needs; some evenings and weekends required
Location: Canandaigua, NY (Shill Family Center at Family Promise of Ontario County)
Compensation: $20/hour
Family Promise of Ontario County (FPOC) serves families in Ontario County, NY who are experiencing housing instability through multiple programs of care that include emergency shelter, eviction prevention, shelter diversion, and stabilization services. Our team works collaboratively using trauma-informed care best practices to maintain a safe, clean, and supportive living environment for every family we serve. The Transportation Coordinator helps ensure shelter guests have reliable access to job interviews, housing appointments, and other essential community resources. This position provides safe transportation, coordinates transportation requests, and works closely with shelter staff to remove barriers that may prevent families from achieving independent stability.
The Transportation Coordinator serves as a positive representative of the shelter by providing compassionate, trauma-informed support while maintaining professionalism, safety, and confidentiality.
Duties Include:
Transportation Services (70%)
- Provide safe, reliable transportation for shelter guests to approved appointments and destinations.
- Interact with guests in a respectful, compassionate, and trauma-informed manner.
- Assist guests with entering and exiting the vehicle when appropriate.
- Ensure all passengers follow vehicle safety expectations, including seatbelt use.
- Follow all traffic laws and practice safe, defensive driving.
- Maintain a clean, welcoming vehicle for daily use and ensure gas is filled.
- Complete routine vehicle inspections and report maintenance or safety concerns promptly.
- Maintain appropriate professional boundaries while building positive relationships.
- Report concerns related to guest safety, emergencies, or policy violations to the Shelter Manager.
- Maintain defensive driving training and certifications as required.
Transportation Coordination (20%):
- Coordinate transportation schedules in collaboration with case managers and shelter staff.
- Prioritize transportation requests based on guest needs and program requirements.
- Communicate transportation schedules and any changes with staff and guests.
- Maintain accurate mileage logs, transportation records, and vehicle maintenance documentation.
- Help connect guests with community transportation resources when appropriate.
Administrative & Program Support (10%):
- Complete required documentation accurately and on time.
- Maintain confidentiality of all guest and agency information.
- Assist with donation pickups, supply runs, and other shelter-related errands as needed.
- Attend required staff meetings and trainings.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- New York state driver's license with a clean driving record
- Must be at least 21 years of age
- Ability to pass required background checks, CPR and mandated reporter trainings.
- Ability to safely operate a 12-passenger van
- Basic computer and smartphone skills for scheduling, email, and navigation
- Ability to lift up to 30–50 pounds to assist with groceries, strollers, or luggage.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
- Respect for confidentiality and professional boundaries.
- Compassion and sensitivity when working in an environment serving families experiencing crisis and housing instability.
- Reliable transportation and consistent attendance.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience driving larger passenger vehicles or vans
- Knowledge of the local community, including medical providers, schools, social service agencies, and community resources.
- Familiarity with trauma-informed care and de-escalation techniques
- Experience working in human services, shelters, social services, healthcare, transportation, or customer service.

- Compassion and patience for working with people in crisis.
- Demonstrates knowledge of the program, mission, and services of FPOC.
- Complies with all policies and procedures in Employee Handbooks.
- Is punctual and consistent in reporting for scheduled work shifts.
- Maintains client confidentiality.
- Is able to work in an alcohol and drug free environment.
- A 90-day probationary period applies to all new hires.
Compensation:
● $20/hr: Part-Time, 20 Hours Weekly
