As we expand into our company, we’re seeking a Project Estimator to support our growing operations by developing accurate cost estimates, managing materials pricing, and collaborating with engineering and project management teams to deliver exceptional service to our clients.
Position Summary
The Project Estimator plays a key role in supporting the design, planning, and financial evaluation of water system projects. This position involves managing up-to-date pricing databases, preparing detailed cost estimates, and assisting with design templates for a range of domestic, commercial, agricultural pumping systems, and water infrastructure.
The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding (or willingness to learn) of water systems, electrical and mechanical components, and regulatory requirements while maintaining a high degree of accuracy and organization.
Key Responsibilities
Estimating & Project Support
- Create detailed, accurate cost estimates using company-provided templates and make new templates as the needs arise.
- Manage and maintain common materials pricing databases.
- Develop estimates for projects including:
- -Turbine and submersible pumps (new, repair, replacement, retrofit)
- -Variable frequency drives (VFDs)
- -Standard and soft start pump controls
- -Electric meter service (new, repair, replacement, upgrade, removal)
- -Domestic pumping systems
- -Pump discharges and above-ground fabricated piping
- -Well rehabilitation and destruction
- Potential to expand into irrigation system engineering, design, and estimating as skills develop.
Collaboration & Coordination
- Work closely with Sales Engineers and Project Managers to ensure estimates align with technical and project requirements.
- Participate in client meetings, site visits, and job walks as needed to gather accurate data for estimating.
- Communicate effectively with vendors, suppliers, and subcontractors to obtain accurate pricing and specifications of new products, technologies, and methods in the water systems industry.
Technical & Administrative
- Create and modify company design templates and site layout documents.
- Research and verify legal, regulatory, and permitting requirements for proposed work.
- Utilize web and print resources to gather technical data and product information.
- Maintain organized project files and ensure documentation accuracy across all estimates.-
Technical Knowledge & Software Skills
Candidates should have familiarity with (or be able to gain proficiency in):
- Microsoft Office Suite: Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams
- Adobe Acrobat, Visio and Irricad for drawings and documentation
- Text, email, and digital communication tools for internal and client correspondence
- Basic understanding or willingness to learn:
- Pump systems (turbine and submersible)
- Electrical service components (120v, 240v 1phs, 240v 3phs, 480v, 3phs)
- Control systems (VFDs, soft starts, and across the line controls)
- Water system materials, including PVC, steel, and poly lines
- Domestic and agricultural water system configurations
- Prevaling wage rate selection and catergorization
Qualifications
Education & Experience:
- Minimum 5 years of experience in the agricultural, electrical, construction, mechanical, irrigation, or water industry.
- College education or technical coursework beneficial but not required.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of water system components preferred.
Skills & Attributes:
- Bilingual (Spanish, preffered)
- High attention to detail and accuracy in estimating and documentation.
- Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications.
- Self-motivated, with the ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities.
Physical & Work Environment Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 80 lbs.
- Willingness to travel to job sites and client locations for site assessments.
- Comfortable working in both office and field environments.
- Availability to work weekends as needed to meet project demands.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and clean driving record
