Private Day School with a 3:1 student to teacher ratio, is seeking an energetic, passionate Special Education Teacher for the 2026-2027 School Year. We serve students with the following disabilities: MD, ID, LD, ED, ASD and OHI. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated success in teaching as well as being able to develop engaging and differentiated lessons that cater to the multiple learning styles of our diverse student population. The candidate should be patient, flexible and skilled in oral and written communications.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Bachelor's Degree or higher degree with major in assigned area.
2. Must possess or be eligible for a teaching license issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia with an endorsement in Special Education and/or General Curriculum or completion of a Bachelor's degree and additional coursework necessary to obtain a teaching license.
3. Prior experience working with students with disabilities preferred.
4. Provide three (3) professional references to include: name, title and email address.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Set and reinforce clear expectations/routines that are aligned with school's vision.
- Develop and implement curricula and activities to meet academic standards.
- Plan daily lessons and implement strategies to meet the needs of all students, providing extra support, enrichment or variation of work.
- Develops instructional plans that are engaging and rigorous.
- Design and implement assessments that measure progress towards academic standards.
- Design Individual Education Plans (IEPs) for students with disabilities.
- Function as a member of evaluation teams, writing evaluation reports/summaries - IEP progress reports, grades and report cards.
- Create positive learning environment and establish academic and behavior expectations for students.
- Collaborate and engage with service providers, staff and administrators to improve instructional practices and achieve student learning goals.
- Participate in professional development and school-wide functions.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
HOURS and SALARY:
* Full-time position working Monday - Friday 7:45AM - 3:30PM
*10-month Teacher scale is commensurate with experience and an opportunity for Extended School Year (ESY) position
