We are seeking an ambitious, self-motivated Tooling Technician. This position offers excellent potential for growth in a cutting-edge field, with experience across many varying programs across aerospace, marine and other customer projects.
Role Summary
· Prepare MDF and composite molds for Pre-Preg part layup using various fillers, then sanding and shaping techniques.
· Bodywork and affix MDF and composite plugs and masters for dry composite layup.
· Use vacuum infusion on dry fiber mold layups with various epoxy and vinyl ester resin systems.
· Attach composite and metallic backup structures to infused composite mold layups following work instructions and using appropriate resin systems according to mold construction.
· Use high attention to detail to assemble and bodywork multi-piece molds made from MDF, composites and metallics.
· Temporary mold preparation using various release tape systems to ensure successful Pre-Preg part manufacturing.
· Have an understanding of various types of tooling function to accurately and efficiently maintain production tooling.
· Vacuum bag materials and layups using films, various vacuum bag system consumables to ensure successful processing.
· Know how to read tape measures, rulers, scales and calipers to verify products that meet final specifications effectively.
· Ability to use pressure pots, spray guns, and a knowledge of setting up air systems is a plus.
Skills and Responsibilities:
- Maintain effective housekeeping in the area of work and the shops, in general.
- Observe all safety rules and regulations.
- Demonstrate ability to communicate, both verbally and in writing, with all levels of individuals inside and outside of the company, to maximize equipment, manufacturing reliability, and productivity.
- High attention to detail.
- Some computer skills including electronic messaging.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, instructions, and operating procedure manuals.
- Represent Composite Approach, as a visible member of the team, in a professional manner that is in line with the standards and values of our company’s culture.
- Willingness to learn, be flexible, and take on new tasks.
- Assist in improving process, equipment dependability, and productivity.
- Available normal business hours with occasional weekend/overtime work totaling 40 hours/week.
- Operate a forklift (training provided)
- Positive attitude.
Working Environment:
- Meet physical requirements including ability to: lift 50lbs, bend/stoop, twist, crouch/squat, kneel, crawl, walk on even and uneven surfaces, climb steps and ladders, work at heights, reach above and below shoulder, and able to grasp/squeeze objects.
- Dusty conditions: this position deals with sanding, cutting and trimming of composite materials – PPE provided.
Compensation:
- Salary: $22-$30 DOE
