Patient Access Representative

Job Summary
We are seeking a compassionate and detail-oriented Patient Access Representative to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will serve as the first point of contact for patients, ensuring a positive patient experience through efficient registration, scheduling, insurance verification, and administrative support. This role requires exceptional customer service, strong organizational skills, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Greet patients and visitors in a professional, courteous, and compassionate manner.
- Register patients accurately by collecting demographic, insurance, and financial information.
- Verify insurance eligibility, benefits, authorizations, and referrals.
- Schedule, reschedule, and confirm patient appointments.
- Maintain accurate patient records within the Electronic Health Record (EHR) system.
- Obtain and process required patient consent forms and documentation.
- Collect copayments, deductibles, and other patient payments in accordance with organizational policies.
- Respond to patient inquiries regarding appointments, billing, and general information.
- Coordinate with clinical staff, providers, and other departments to ensure smooth patient flow.
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA and all federal, state, and organizational privacy regulations.
- Perform additional administrative duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Minimum of 1 year of patient registration, patient access, medical receptionist, or healthcare customer service experience.
- Experience verifying insurance eligibility and obtaining prior authorizations.
- Proficiency with Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems such as Epic, Cerner, Meditech, or similar.
- Strong computer and data entry skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Outstanding customer service and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to multitask while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate's degree in Healthcare Administration or related field.
- Previous experience in a hospital, emergency department, outpatient clinic, or physician practice.
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
