Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced CNC Mill Operator to support an automotive design studio fabrication team. This role focuses on machine setup, CNC machining, and foam milling used in the development of full-scale automotive design models.
The ideal candidate has experience operating CNC milling equipment, working with CAM software such as PowerMILL (or similar), and machining foam or other model-making materials in a fast-paced prototype environment.
Responsibilities
- Set up and operate CNC milling machines for prototype and design model fabrication.
- Run production jobs while monitoring machine performance and quality.
- Prepare machine setups and troubleshoot machining issues as they arise.
- Generate or modify toolpaths using PowerMILL or comparable CAM software.
- Machine foam blocks and other modeling materials to precise specifications.
- Verify finished parts meet design and dimensional requirements.
- Work closely with fabrication, modeling, engineering, and design teams.
- Maintain equipment and follow all safety procedures.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 5+ years of CNC mill operation experience.
- Experience setting up and operating CNC milling equipment.
- Experience using PowerMILL or similar CAM software.
- Experience machining foam or prototype/model-making materials.
- Ability to read engineering drawings and manufacturing documentation.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Comfortable working in a collaborative fabrication environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in an automotive design studio, prototype shop, or model shop.
- Familiarity with automotive styling, clay modeling, or fabrication workflows.
- Experience machining large-format foam components.
- Knowledge of UG/NX, Alias, or other CAD software is a plus.
