Detail Technician — Humble Crew Auto Spa
Company: Humble Crew Auto Spa — Plano, TX Job Type: Full-time, in-shop Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:30 PM. No weekends. Pay: $15/hr to start. $15–23/hr as a detail technician, and past that as you pick up the other trades.
Why This Job Is Open
The person in this seat is moving up. He learned prep here, got good at it, and he's starting on paint protection film now. That's the only reason there's an opening.
We'd rather tell you that than pretend we're expanding. This is a real seat with a real path out of it, and the guy who just walked that path is still in the building.
The Work
Prep, primarily — and everything the rest of the shop is built on top of.
Washing and decontamination: iron, tar, clay. Wheels and wheel wells. Interiors. Getting paint genuinely clean and ready so the coating, correction, and film work goes onto a surface worth working on. Keeping the shop, the equipment, and the chemicals in order.
Here's why we take it seriously: a ceramic coating or a film install is only as good as the prep underneath it. Leave contamination in the paint and we've just sealed it under a job the client paid thousands for. Whoever holds this position is holding up the most expensive work in the building, and we don't treat it like the low job on the board.
It's physical work. On your feet, kneeling and reaching, wet hands, Texas summers. That's the honest version.
What We're Looking For
Detail experience — you've done this in a shop, not just on your own car. Specifically, we need someone who can wash, decon, and turn an interior without someone checking every step.
Beyond that:
- You show up. Every day, on time. It sounds basic. It's still the thing that decides who works out.
- A real standard on prep. You know what's still in the paint after a wash, and you don't call a car done when it isn't.
- You take a close look at your work without taking it personally. Everything gets checked here, ours included. That's how the standard holds.
- You want the rest of the trade. This job goes somewhere, but only for someone who actually wants to learn coating, correction, and film.
- You like cars. Most of our clients are enthusiasts, and it shows in the work when the person doing it is interested.
- Valid driver's license and a clean enough record to move client vehicles around the shop.
The Pay
$15/hr to start, based on where your experience actually is.
$15–23/hr as a detail technician. The top of that band is about $47,800 a year, and it's what the job is worth when you're running prep at our standard with no oversight.
Past $23/hr once you're into the other trades. We do ceramic coating, paint correction, paint protection film, and window tint in-house, on Porsches, M cars, Teslas, and built trucks. We'll teach all of it to someone showing promise, and your pay follows what you can actually do.
We can't put a date on that — it depends on your reps and how fast it clicks. Nobody here arrived already knowing this work. It gets taught, to the people who want it.
Schedule
Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:30 PM. No weekends. In this industry that's worth saying twice.
How to Apply
Send your resume, plus short answers to two questions. We read both, and applications without them don't get reviewed — it's the fastest way for us to find the people who are actually interested.
- Walk us through how you'd decontaminate a car before a ceramic coating. A few sentences is plenty. We're not looking for a textbook answer, just how you actually do it.
- Tell us about something where the quality mattered and nobody would have known if you'd cut a corner. It doesn't have to be a car. Prep is invisible when it's done right, so how you work when no one's watching is most of the job.
If it looks like a fit, we'll bring you in for a working interview — half a day prepping a car alongside our crew. You get a real feel for how we run, we get to see your hands work, and you're paid for the day regardless of how it goes.
Questions before you apply are welcome. Reach out.
