A Brief Overview
The Gastrointestinal Technician works under the supervision of an RN to perform a variety of duties for patients undergoing endoscopic procedures. Performs direct patient care of patients undergoing an endoscopic procedure.

What you will do
- Sets up table, instruments and supplies required for specific procedures ensuring appropriate instruments, scopes and supplies are accurately set up
- Follows aseptic techniques when opening sterile supplies and setting up procedures. Discards any contaminated supplies according to established written procedures.
- Assist the patient before, and during the procedure by assisting with appropriate hospital clothing, positing patient and providing emotional support as needed.
- Assist physicians, passes instruments, medical devices and adjust lighting as needed during procedure.
- Demonstrates competence in care of specimens, (biopsies, cultures, frozen section) and in the accurate recording, labeling, and handling of specimens at all times.
- Cleans all equipment, instruments, carts and rooms following written process and procedures and restocks / resets for next procedure.
- Restocks room as required
- Attends staff and hospital wide meetings. Serves on Hospital wide taskforces as assigned
- Consistently interacts with physicians, peers, other departmental personnel, volunteers and external service providers in a courteous and professional manner.

Education Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED Required
- Bachelor's Degree Preferred
Graduate of a medical assistant, nursing assistant, or surgical technologist program Preferred

Experience Qualifications
- Healthcare experience Required
Previous healthcare experience in surgery or gastrointestinal/endoscopic lab Preferred

- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- Good communication skills with the ability to read, write and understand the English language

Base Pay Scale: Generally starting at $31.94 - $41.20 per hour
The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training. This pay scale is not a promise of a particular wage.
