Job Summary
The Shipping Supervisor is responsible for the daily operation of the shipping department, ensuring customer orders are packaged, documented, and shipped accurately and on time. This is a working supervisor position that performs shipping activities while providing direction to shipping personnel, maintaining shipping records, coordinating outbound and inbound freight, and supporting inventory accuracy.
In addition to shipping responsibilities, this position manages Maintenance, Repair, and Operations (MRO) purchasing by procuring production supplies, maintenance materials, tooling consumables, safety supplies, and other indirect materials required to support manufacturing operations.
Supervisory Responsibilities
· Provides daily direction and work assignments for shipping personnel.
· Trains employees on shipping procedures, packaging requirements, ERP transactions, and safe material handling.
· Assists with employee performance evaluations and development.
· Promotes a safe, organized, and efficient work environment.
Shipping Operations
· Perform daily shipping activities including packaging, labeling, palletizing, and preparing customer shipments.
· Verify shipments against customer requirements, packing slips, purchase orders, and work instructions.
· Prepare shipping documentation including packing slips, bills of lading, certifications, and other required documentation.
· Process shipments using ERP, UPS, FedEx, LTL, and customer shipping portals.
· Schedule carrier pickups and coordinate freight deliveries.
· Ensure all shipments meet customer packaging specifications and quality requirements.
· Coordinate shipment priorities with Production Control to meet customer delivery commitments.
· Maintain shipping supplies and packaging materials.
· Operate forklifts, pallet jacks, scales, and other material handling equipment safely.
· Perform cycle counts and assist with inventory accuracy.
· Maintain organized finished goods and shipping areas using 5S principles.
· Assist receiving when workload requires.
MRO Purchasing
· Purchase maintenance, repair, and operating supplies to support production and facility operations.
· Source competitive pricing while balancing quality, delivery, and supplier performance.
· Create purchase orders within the ERP system.
· Monitor supplier acknowledgements and delivery dates.
· Follow up on late deliveries and resolve supplier issues.
· Maintain appropriate inventory levels of MRO supplies while minimizing excess inventory.
· Work closely with Maintenance, Engineering, Quality, and Operations to anticipate material needs.
· Develop and maintain relationships with MRO suppliers.
· Maintain supplier records and purchasing documentation.
Inventory & ERP
· Maintain accurate inventory transactions within the ERP system.
· Receive MRO materials into inventory.
· Verify quantities and resolve discrepancies.
· Assist with annual physical inventory.
· Ensure inventory records remain accurate and organized.
Continuous Improvement
· Recommend improvements to shipping processes, packaging methods, inventory control, and purchasing activities.
· Support Lean Manufacturing and 5S initiatives.
· Participate in continuous improvement projects to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
Safety & Compliance
· Follow all company safety policies and OSHA requirements.
· Ensure safe operation of forklifts and material handling equipment.
· Maintain a clean and organized work area.
· Support company quality objectives and AS9100 requirements.
· Protect customer property and maintain product traceability during shipping activities.
Required Skills and Abilities

Education and Experience
· High school diploma or equivalent required.
· Three or more years of experience in manufacturing shipping, receiving, inventory, or purchasing.
· Supervisory or team lead experience preferred.
· ERP experience preferred.
· Forklift certification or ability to obtain certification.
Work Environment
While performing the duties of this position, the employee works primarily in a manufacturing environment with regular exposure to moving machinery, forklifts, material handling equipment, airborne particles, oils, coolants, and varying temperatures. The work environment is frequently loud due to production equipment. The employee will also perform administrative and purchasing duties in an office setting as needed.

Pay: $24.00 - $28.00 per hour
