Job Summary:
Ward’s Berry Farm is looking for a reliable Order Picker/Dock Worker. This role would be responsible for picking and packing customer orders for shipment, ensuring accuracy and efficiency, while also loading and unloading freight, often using warehouse equipment like forklifts and ensuring safe practices.
Job Responsibilities:
Order Picking:
- Locate and retrieve items from warehouse shelves or storage areas based on customer orders.
- Checks packing list for accuracy and inspects collected goods.
- Prepare orders for shipment by packing items securely, labeling packages, and ensuring they are ready for loading.
- Assist with maintaining accurate inventory records and replenishing stock levels.
- Uses a pallet jack/forklift truck to pull orders when needed.
- Follows safety rules for the warehouse when picking an order.
- Contribute to maintaining a clean, organized, and safe warehouse environment.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Produce Washing / Packing:
- Wash and grade produce that comes from the fields to prepare it for sale.
- Store, rotate, and organize produce in coolers or other storage locations as directed.
- Set up, operate, and clean wash/pack equipment.
- Maintain cleanliness and food safety standards in all wash/pack areas.
Wholesale Order Fulfillment:
- Pack wholesale produce orders, ensuring accuracy and quality control.
- Coordinate with managers about inventory and order discrepancies.
- Ensure proper handling and cold chain practices to maintain produce quality.
- Rotate stock and help organize coolers and storage areas during packing.
- Load and unload products from trucks using hand trucks and pallet jacks.
- Communicate with delivery drivers or customers during pickups, ensuring smooth transfer of orders.
Equipment Operation (as qualified):
- Operate tractors for farm tasks and guest hayrides.
- Use forklifts for dock work and loading/unloading freight.
- Drive farm vans and box trucks to deliver wholesale orders.
- Drive farm pickup trucks to transport produce, staff, tools, or materials between field work sites.
- Operate all equipment safely and responsibly; training available for qualified candidates
Qualifications:
- Friendly, outgoing personality with a strong work ethic and a positive attitude.
- Strong reading and communication skills.
- Must have good hand/eye coordination.
- Ability to follow instructions and work both independently and as part of a team.
- Good physical health: ability to bend, stoop, lift, and carry up to 50 lbs. frequently.
- Ability to stand for extended periods.
- Valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record required for equipment operation responsibilities.
- Flexibility to work early hours. Some weekend and holiday work is required.
- Strong attention to detail, especially when harvesting, sorting, labeling, or packing produce.
- Ability to work efficiently and maintain pace in a fast-moving environment.
- Willingness to adapt to changing tasks and priorities as farm needs evolve.
- Previous farm, warehouse, or retail stocking experience preferred; reliability is a must.
- Ability to operate various types of materials handling equipment including pallet jacks and forklifts
Pay: $18.00 - $22.00 per hour
