This individual will build and maintain our equipment asset management program, oversee preventive and corrective maintenance, establish a reliable national vendor network, and support lifecycle planning for warehouse equipment.
This role requires periodic travel to warehouse sites across the U.S. to conduct on-site assessments, coordinate repairs, support equipment commissioning, and ensure operational, safety, and documentation standards are met.
Key Responsibilities
1. Asset Management
· Maintain a comprehensive equipment asset registry across all U.S. warehouse locations, including forklifts, pallet jacks, conveyors, dock equipment, stretch wrappers, labelers, racking systems, automation equipment, and other warehouse assets.
· Implement asset tagging, equipment documentation standards, and work-order history tracking through a CMMS or asset management system.
· Track equipment lifecycle, condition, depreciation, utilization, and replacement planning.
· Ensure accurate documentation of all assets, including acquisition date, location, serial number, condition, warranty status, service provider, and maintenance history.
2. Maintenance Management
· Develop and implement preventive maintenance (PM) schedules for warehouse equipment, including forklifts, conveyors, dock levelers, doors, racking systems, stretch wrappers, labelers, and other material handling equipment.
· Respond to and coordinate corrective maintenance requests; minimize equipment downtime through clear escalation, vendor dispatch, and repair follow-up.
· Establish emergency repair response procedures, downtime escalation rules, and spare-parts planning for critical equipment.
· Establish KPIs for equipment uptime, PM compliance, mean time to repair (MTTR), repair cost per asset, and maintenance cost by warehouse.
3. Vendor & Supplier Management
· Source, evaluate, and manage equipment vendors, service contractors, parts suppliers, and equipment rental providers.
· Negotiate service agreements, maintenance contracts, response-time expectations, warranty terms, and pricing to ensure cost-effectiveness and reliability.
· Build a national vendor network capable of supporting multi-site operations across the U.S.
· Maintain vendor compliance documentation, including insurance, safety requirements, service records, and performance scorecards.
4. Safety, Compliance & Standards
· Coordinate equipment safety inspections and support corrective actions for MHE, racking, dock equipment, and related warehouse assets.
· Support OSHA-aware maintenance practices, lockout/tagout awareness, and site-level equipment safety standards in partnership with operations and EHS/HR where applicable.
· Create standard maintenance checklists, inspection forms, and documentation templates for warehouse teams.
5. Cross-Functional Collaboration
· Work closely with warehouse operations managers to prioritize equipment needs, repairs, inspections, and replacement planning.
· Coordinate with procurement and finance on equipment budgets, capital expenditure requests, repair cost tracking, rental decisions, and vendor payment issues.
· Support new warehouse setup, equipment installation, vendor coordination, and commissioning for future expansion.
· Provide leadership with periodic equipment status reporting, risk summaries, and cost-improvement recommendations.
Qualifications
· Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Facilities Management, Supply Chain, or a related field, or equivalent hands-on experience managing warehouse equipment and maintenance programs.
· 5-8 years of experience in equipment maintenance, facilities engineering, material handling equipment management, or a related role, preferably in logistics, warehousing, e-commerce fulfillment, or manufacturing.
· Proven track record of managing equipment operations across multiple sites or locations.
· Strong familiarity with warehouse equipment such as forklifts, pallet jacks, conveyor systems, dock levelers, doors, stretch wrappers, labelers, racking systems, and related MHE.
· Experience implementing or managing CMMS/work-order systems, asset tagging, PM schedules, and maintenance reporting.
