JOB SUMMARY: Project Engineers work in teams that develop or redesign new or existing company products. They are capable of working independently, working on longer term projects, conducting testing, troubleshooting, and leading technical or non-technical colleagues through project execution as needed. The individual in this role will interact with all phases of the New Product Development (NPD) lifecycle including up front CAD Modeling and design definition, supporting new product launches, as well as supporting new products in the field with technical support as needed.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
- Support engineering development timelines by driving deliverables to meet schedule requirements
- Execute testing on prototypes, Factory Acceptance Tests, and Site Acceptance Tests as needed
- Interacts with customers, suppliers, and internal stakeholders to execute timely NPD objectives that meet business objectives
- Design company products using SolidWorks or other engineering software
- Create and/or guide other technical team members in authoring owner’s manuals, test procedures, and other engineering deliverables as required
- Perform engineering computations and analysis for sizing equipment components
- Interacts with customers, suppliers, and internal stakeholders to execute timely NPD objectives that meet business objectives
- Ensures accuracy and completeness of engineering deliverables
- Provides support to manufacturing on new products, especially in the areas of BOMs, Routings, design updates, and technical production questions
- Other duties as assigned
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- This role has no direct reporting responsibilities
- Provides technical guidance and work distribution for engineering team on site and/or in India
- Provides regular technical leadership in guiding cross functional peers through portions of the NPD process
- Frequently tasked with checking the technical work of other team members
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Hands on and unafraid to dive into problem solving in many different environments
- Solid knowledge of manufacturing and engineering fundamentals
- CAD proficiency is required, mastery is preferred
- Proficient in working with ERPs (SyteLine is preferred) as well as PLM or PDM Systems, System mastery is preferred
- Basic knowledge of electrical controls, controls hardware, operation, and controls configuration
- Proficient in power transmission systems including drives, pulleys, belts, motor specification, gearboxes and more, mastery is preferred
- Ability to perform fundamental engineering calculations employing software or by hand, FEA capabilty strongly preferred
- Familiarity with conveyors and material handling systems is preferred but not a requirement
- Ability to maintain positive and professional working relationships with all staff at all levels/functions of organization
- Ability to solve department level problems and drive continuous improvement initiatives with peer review
- Successful completion of 90-day probationary period
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
- Four-year degree in a relevant engineering field, preferably mechanical, industrial, or manufacturing, Master’s degree preferred
- 5-10 years’ experience in an applicable engineering field
- Minimum of 2-3 years experience in technical or project leadership capacities
- Proficiency in modern manufacturing methods and processes
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical/electrical schematics and customer specifications.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external customers using English.
- Excellent math skills are required. Individuals in this position must be able to perform engineering calculations employing algebra, geometry, and trigonometry as required.
- Proficient with 3D CAD Software, SolidWorks, or 3DInventorProficient with 2D AutoCAD
- Proficient in Microsoft Office products, especially Excel and Outlook
TRAVEL DEMANDS:
- This position may require occasional travel.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk and sit. Employee spends time on shop floor, which could be significant portions of the day at times and require lifting up to 50 lbs. This role also requires spending time sitting in front of a computer.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment is pleasant, temperature controlled, professional office environment in a manufacturing setting. The employee works in an office setting but does have frequent interaction with the shop floor. On the shop floor, the employee is exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is mixed and the air temperature fluctuates with the seasonal weather.
