All My Children Day Care & Nursery School (AMC) is seeking a reliable and skilled Facilities Handyman to support the maintenance, repair, painting, and improvement of our school facilities. Painting and surface restoration are the primary responsibilities of this position.
The annual salary for the role equals to $58,000- $66,500 a year.
The Facilities Handyman will travel between AMC locations to complete work orders, perform preventative maintenance, respond to facility needs, and help maintain safe, clean, functional, and welcoming learning environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform interior and exterior painting, surface preparation, touch-ups, and restoration.
- Complete general building repairs, including carpentry, drywall, flooring, masonry, plumbing, and basic electrical work.
- Repair and install doors, fixtures, shelving, cabinetry, ceiling tiles, classroom equipment, and other building components.
- Maintain playground equipment, fencing, gates, railings, and exterior features.
- Perform preventative maintenance and identify repairs requiring outside contractors.
- Support renovations, classroom setups, relocations, school openings, and facility improvement projects.
- Complete work orders and respond to maintenance requests across multiple school locations.
- Safely operate hand and power tools, ladders, painting equipment, and other maintenance equipment.
- Maintain clean, organized work areas and properly manage tools, equipment, paint, and supplies.
- Follow OSHA, agency, and other applicable safety requirements and promptly report safety concerns.
- Maintain professional relationships with school staff, contractors, vendors, and visitors.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in facilities maintenance, construction, building maintenance, or handyman work.
- Strong painting and surface preparation skills.
- Experience with carpentry, drywall, flooring, masonry, plumbing, electrical, and general building repairs.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required.
- Trade school or vocational training in a related skilled trade preferred.
- OSHA or other relevant certifications preferred.
- Experience in schools, childcare, healthcare, or commercial facilities is a plus.
- Strong problem-solving, organization, communication, and time-management skills.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize multiple assignments, and maintain high-quality work.
- Bilingual skills are a plus.
Schedule & Physical Requirements
- Regular travel between AMC school locations is required.
- Evening, weekend, or holiday work may occasionally be required for projects or emergencies.
- Ability to lift and carry materials weighing up to approximately 75 pounds.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb ladders, and work at moderate heights.
- Comfortable working indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
