The Town of Palm Beach is seeking a dedicated and hardworking Maintenance Laborer to join the team at Seaview Park and Phipps Ocean Park Tennis Center. In this role, you will be responsible for janitorial, maintenance, set-up/tear down, and repair tasks at the Recreation Center and/or Tennis Centers, playing a vital part in keeping these community facilities clean, safe, and fully operational for residents and visitors alike. This position requires considerable personal contact and visibility with both employees and the public, making it ideal for someone who takes pride in their work and enjoys contributing to a welcoming community environment. As a key member of the facilities maintenance team, you will work under the direction of the Facility Maintenance Supervisor and collaborate with fellow staff to ensure that all Town of Palm Beach recreational facilities meet the highest standards of cleanliness, safety, and functionality. This role requires availability to work weekends and holidays on a variable work schedule. Candidates should be comfortable working both indoors and outdoors in a variety of weather conditions typical of South Florida, and must be prepared to perform physical labor including lifting up to 50 pounds. A background drug screening is required as part of the hiring process.
Your day typically begins with a walk-through of Seaview Park facilities and the Phipps Ocean Park Tennis Center to assess cleaning needs, identify any maintenance concerns, and prioritize tasks for the shift. You'll perform janitorial duties throughout the facilities, including restrooms, common areas, and recreational spaces, ensuring everything is clean and presentable for the public. Throughout the day, you may assist with setting up or tearing down equipment for events or programming, respond to minor repair needs as they arise, and conduct safety inspections of both interior and exterior areas. You'll operate a variety of powered and non-powered tools and equipment, keeping them in good working order and properly stored after use. Interaction with park visitors and fellow staff is a regular part of the day — whether answering a quick question from a tennis player or coordinating with your supervisor on a repair recommendation. Success in this role looks like facilities that are consistently clean, safe, and ready for community use, with maintenance issues identified and addressed proactively before they become larger problems.
