Electrical Controls Engineer

A manufacturing company is seeking an Electrical Controls Engineer to manage and design automation tooling and equipment while supporting and improving current manufacturing systems. This role works closely with all levels of the organization and plays a key part in developing new robotic automation systems for injection mold press tending, automated component feeding and assembly, laser marking, and vision inspection applications.
Schedule
Full time, based in Romeo, Michigan. Some travel required (under 10%) for off site equipment installations, with occasional support of 2nd and 3rd shifts as needed.
Compensation
$100,000 to $120,000 per year.
What You'll Do
This role develops new and supports existing robotic automation systems, identifying and implementing new technology, controls, and automation to maintain a competitive edge. The engineer manages new projects considering budget, cost targets, delivery timelines, and early build events, and communicates with customers, suppliers, and internal personnel throughout all phases of new launches. Responsibilities include troubleshooting and coordinating response measures for existing production equipment, along with electrical controls, simulation, programming, debug, and start up assistance. This person also leads process development for single component and two component liquid dispense applications, including specifying equipment and running material trials.
Day to day activities include designing and managing new automated equipment, developing project proposals, budgets, timelines, and open issue logs, and generating and modifying control and pneumatic schematics. The role involves robot, PLC, and HMI programming, ensuring equipment performs as specified, and collaborating with outside vendors to meet project goals. This engineer also works with internal skilled trades, operators, and outside vendors to troubleshoot hardware and software issues.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering
- CAD experience
- Excellent communication skills
- Project management experience
- Knowledge of electrical systems, including NEC code, control circuits, motion control, and PLC programming
Preferred Qualifications
- 3 to 5 years of applicable electrical controls and automation experience
- Knowledge of robotic systems and programming
- Knowledge of pneumatic circuits
- Experience with AutoCAD/Draftsight, SolidWorks, Fanuc and Sepro robotic programming, Allen Bradley PLC programming, vision inspection system programming, RoboGuide simulation and Visual Components, Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint, and Oracle ERP
