Responsibilities
- Assist individuals with daily living activities (ADLs) such as grooming, hygiene, meal preparation, and transportation
- Implement behavior management strategies to support positive social interactions and emotional well-being
- Support participants during community outings, recreational activities, and vocational tasks to promote independence and social skills
- Collect data on participant progress and behavior to inform care plans and report to team members
- Administer medication following prescribed protocols and document all medication-related activities accurately
- Use effective communication skills, including American Sign Language if applicable, to facilitate understanding and engagement
- Maintain a safe environment by following health and safety guidelines, conducting regular safety checks, and responding promptly to emergencies
Skills
- Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities or autism in home, community care, or educational settings
- Strong understanding of special education principles and behavioral health practices
- Ability to utilize behavioral management techniques to support positive outcomes
- Excellent communication skills, including the ability to assist with communication challenges using sign language or other methods
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for driving participants to appointments or community activities
- Compassionate caregiving skills with a focus on person-centered support and advocacy
- Ability to collect accurate data, maintain detailed documentation, and follow protocols for medication administration
