Position Overview
Cincinnati Shakespeare Company is seeking dynamic and passionate artists to join our Shakes on Tour educational tours. Touring actors will rehearse and perform reduced-cast abridged versions of A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Romeo and Juliet in schools throughout the region and lead post-show talkbacks with student audiences. Additional workshop teaching opportunities may be available. Must have local housing.
Key Responsibilities
Performance: Prepare, rehearse, and perform high-energy, abridged Shakespeare productions (A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Romeo and Juliet), directed by the Director of Outreach and Training, in school and educational settings. Lead engaging, informative, and inclusive talkbacks with audiences.
Collaboration: Work as a team with other actors and artists, taking on specific additional responsibilities to ensure smooth and consistent execution of performances (see below). Maintain tour schedule through timely and safe group travel to and from tour stops.
Administration & Communication: Stay in close written and/or voice communication with the Director of Education regarding bookings, logistics, scheduling changes and any concerns.
REQUIRED Qualifications
Strong acting skills and experience
Ability to engage and connect with young audiences
Excellent time management, communication, and organizational skills.
Ability to work collaboratively, flexibly, and professionally in a small team.

PREFERRED Qualifications
Teaching experience with any age group
Acting and/or academic experience with Shakespeare and/or Theatre for Young Audiences
Driver’s license and clean driving record

Scheduling and Conflicts Policy
To ensure the integrity and professionalism of our educational tours, the following policy applies:
Primary Commitment: Touring actors are expected to prioritize CSC responsibilities during contracted hours.
Disclosure: Any known or potential conflicts must be disclosed prior to signing a contract.
New Conflicts: Any scheduling conflicts that arise must be communicated to the Director of Education at least two weeks in advance.
Scheduling Window: Attempts will be made to finalize schedules at least two weeks in advance, but please note this is not guaranteed.
Performances outside of traditional school days/hours must be approved by all tour actors before being approved
Touring Team Responsibilities
Costumes Lead
Ensure all costume pieces are packed and ready for transport.
Use a preset checklist to organize and preset costumes. · Communicate any notes to the Company Liaison. · Launder costume pieces as needed in coordination with the Costume Department
Props/Set Lead
Primary Van Driver (Multiple people will be approved to drive the van throughout the season, however there will be a primary driver.)
Must have a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
As needed, drive company van with all tour company actors and production elements to the performance site.
Supervise the loading and unloading of the van for performances.
Make sure that the van’s gas tank is refilled and communicate any maintenance needs to the Company Liaison.
Ensure the van is kept clean and tidy.
Make sure that the van is always parked legally and parking is paid for at venues where necessary.
Fight Captain/Company Liaison
Ensure that all weapons travel safely to and from performances.
Clean and maintain weapons.
Run fight call before all performances.
Collect attendance data from performance venues.
After each performance, complete Google form with performance and venue info, and all maintenance or tour needs.
