EJ Phair Alamo is an upscale pub focused on fresh ingredients, scratch cooking, and a thoughtfully built menu designed to stand alongside a great beer program. We’re a family owned operation seeking an experienced Head Chef to lead our kitchen and grow with us.
Schedule:
Full time, 40 hours per week with a non traditional schedule… shifts may run 11am to 7pm or similar. Weekend availability is required, no exceptions. We’re upfront about this because it’s essential to the role.
Responsibilities:
- Lead all back of house operations, including menu execution, recipe development, plating standards, and consistency across all shifts
- Manage inventory, ordering, food costing, pricing, and budgets using kitchen management software
- Develop and maintain vendor relationships to ensure quality and cost efficiency
- Hire, train, schedule, and lead the kitchen team with clear, respectful communication
- Maintain full compliance with health department regulations and food safety standards
- Monitor labor costs and kitchen efficiency alongside ownership
- Collaborate on seasonal menu changes and specials
Qualifications:
- Minimum 3 to 5 years of kitchen leadership experience as a Head Chef, Executive Chef, or senior Sous Chef in a full service restaurant, gastropub, or similar concept
- Non negotiable: a proven track record using inventory and kitchen management programs to handle ordering, budgets, pricing, recipe costing, and menu consistency.
- ServSafe Manager certification (or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire)
- Strong knowledge of food cost percentages, portion control, and waste reduction
- Experience hiring, developing, and retaining kitchen staff
- Spanish speaking is a plus… communication with our team is a priority
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 las
- Current, verifiable references required.
