Job Summary
The Assistant Athletic Director for Media Relations is responsible for communication activities and media relations to positively promote The University of Texas at Tyler Department of Athletics through various internal and external media opportunities. Responsibilities include managing home athletic contests, including statistics, announcements, photos, and game programs, and writing and editing content for a variety of publications. This position will also update the athletics website and utilize professional design software.
Major Responsibilities/Duties/Critical Tasks

Ensure all communication strategies and execution fit within the broader context of the University-wide communication strategies and plan.

Develop and implement a comprehensive public relations program.

Responsible for compiling, developing, disseminating, and managing all UT Tyler sports information, including promotion, marketing, fundraising, producing public relations materials, writing sports releases and unique articles, reporting scores and statistics, and maintaining the UT Tyler Athletics website.

Maintain the athletics website with timely, accurate, and creative content, including post-game stories, statistics, player spotlight features, marketing, and news items.

Collaborate with Creative Content Coordinator to create posters, social media graphics, video highlights, interviews, and promotions.

Schedule, shoot, and edit photos and headshots and maintain action photo files for each sport.

Create entertaining video board content for Basketball, Volleyball, Softball, and Baseball video boards.

Produce informative and creative content on UT Tyler athletic programs, events, student-athletes, and coaches for fans and media outlets.

Spotlight players and coaches' stories in a journalistic style to increase web and social media traffic and highlight the programs.

In collaboration with Creative Content Coordinator, effectively use the UT Tyler Athletics social media accounts (Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, etc.) to promote Athletics with live updates for all games.

Oversee designated areas of game management, including set-up, staffing, game broadcasts, photography, programs, and statistical reporting to the NCAA.

Oversee the production of high-quality live streaming of athletic events, including broadcasting, cameras, statistical input, and broadcast control.

Responsible for statistics for all home games, including producing live stat feeds and live streaming for instant access to content.

Produces informative previews and notes for broadcasters, news media, and fans.

Compiles statistical and historical record information for student-athletes and teams and reports to NCAA, LSC, and sports organizations. Utilize NCAA LiveStats and Presto.

Utilizes www.uttylerpatriots.com to post information on all programs.

Creation of web pages highlighting the program's success, coaches, and players.
-
Ensures that statistics are updated instantly to provide access to media and fans on game days.

Works within the athletic department to promote marketing, ticket sales, special events, and special promotions.

Assists in the planning and management of LSC and NCAA postseason events/tournaments.

Responsible for all media requests from local journalists, the LSC, NCAA, and organizations.

Provides content to local, regional, and national media to promote athletic programs.

Promote home events within the campus community and Tyler community to encourage greater participation at home events.
- Travels to away games when appropriate to cover teams in a journalistic style to produce content that will be posted on UT Tyler outlets, along with distributing video highlights, post-game interviews, photos, and information to local and regional media for use in their publications and television broadcasts.

Attend departmental, LSC, and assigned committee meetings.

Supervise student and part-time workers as needed.

Act as a principal participant in the planning and execution of successful NCAA Championships and postseason tournaments.

Other duties as assigned.
Required Education/Experience
-
Bachelor's Degree.
-
Three (3) years of related experience.
-
Two (2) years of collegiate sports information experience preferred.
-
Proficient in stat software for all of UT Tyler's Varsity Athletic Programs.
-
Proficient with Adobe Creative Suite with particular attention to Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and Premiere Pro.

Supervisory experience.

Understand and comply with NCAA Division II, conference, and University rules and regulations.

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
