Position Summary
The Employment Specialist supports individuals with mental illness and/or substance use disorders in achieving competitive, community-based employment. This role works collaboratively with consumers and their care teams to identify vocational goals, remove barriers to employment, and provide ongoing job development and support services.
Using a person-centered approach, the Employment Specialist helps individuals explore employment opportunities, secure jobs, and maintain long-term success in the workplace.
Key Responsibilities

Provide person-centered employment services in collaboration with consumers, families, and care teams

Assist individuals in identifying career interests, strengths, and employment goals

Support job search activities, job placement, and retention

Develop and maintain relationships with community employers

Provide education and support to employers, including job accommodations

Deliver job coaching and follow-along supports

Spend at least 60% of time in the community engaging with clients and employers

Maintain accurate documentation, including progress notes and service records

Participate in team meetings to integrate employment services into treatment planning

Promote supported employment services within the community

Assist with transportation needs as required

Support and train job coaches or other staff as needed
Qualifications
Education: High school diploma or equivalent required
Experience:
-
Preferred: Two (2) years working with individuals with mental illness and/or substance use disorders

Experience in job development, vocational services, or workforce engagement preferred
Skills & Requirements:

Strong interpersonal and communication skills

Ability to engage effectively with individuals and employers

Knowledge of supported employment practices preferred

Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record

Reliable transportation preferred

Basic computer and documentation skills

Ability to work occasional evenings or weekends
Lived experience with mental illness, developmental disabilities, or substance use disorders is valued.
Physical Requirements

Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 25 lbs

Ability to drive and travel within the community
