This position consists of three main components:
The PE Teacher reports directly to the Head of School. This position is responsible for developing lesson plans; delivering group and individual student instruction within established curriculum guidelines: preschool through eighth grade; collaborating with other teachers, staff, and administrators in addressing instructional and/or class issues; supervising students within the athletic fields and other assigned areas; student progress and the athletic programs, among other related responsibilities.
The Physical Education Teacher will seek to model the school’s philosophy of education through instruction and example and provide lessons that meet the school’s requirements as well as students’ interests and capabilities. The Teacher will take precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities, and will keep accurate records.
While this position is considered to be full time, The Well School is open to a part time option for the right candidate.
Be present on campus, Monday through Friday, for PA classes and after school programming (seasonally: Soccer & Cross Country in the fall, Skiing in the winter, Outdoor Education/Club sports in the spring
Oversee all aspects of the Physical Education & Athletics department which includes budget, class preparation, inter scholastic practices and games and event schedule
Oversee standards and safety when on campus and away from campus with school groups
Attend Saturday school days, faculty, and committee meetings
Attend in-service training and workshops
Maintain records of student progress, and collaborate on progress reports and report cards
Handle social, emotional, and behavioral issues working closely with primary teachers
Report safety and wellness incidents to the school’s Human Resource Department
Prepare and implement lesson plans, providing appropriate learning experiences for each preschool through eighth-grade student
Communicate and interact with students, parents, staff, and community members as needed
Care for equipment, materials, and facilities
Knowledge of emergency plans for the school, such as lockdown procedures and fire drills
The PE Teacher is expected to lead at least one after school club per session (with the exception of the Fall sports season.)
Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education, Elementary School Education or Outdoor Education or equivalent education and/or experience
At least 5 years of experience in appropriate field (e.g., PE, Elementary Ed, Sports Coaching, Outdoor Ed, Camp & Adventure programming)
Proficient knowledge of teaching strategies and methods
Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills
Proficient computer skills
Valid driver’s license
Availability to work extended hours on occasion
Able to work well collaboratively
Excellent oral and written communication skills
High-energy and enthusiastic about working in an Pre-K, elementary and middle school environment
