Duties
- Must have a valid Drivers License and reliable vehicle
- Perform thorough cleaning of floors, including sweeping, mopping, and vacuuming to uphold high standards of cleanliness.
- Conduct specialized floor care tasks such as buffing, stripping, sealing, and waxing to preserve the integrity of various flooring surfaces.
- Support maintenance activities by reporting repairs needed for flooring or other facility fixtures and assisting with light custodial tasks as directed.
- Follow safety protocols during all cleaning procedures to ensure a hazard-free environment for residents and staff.
- Maintain detailed logs of cleaning activities and report any issues that require further attention.
- Common duties for a maintenance assistant include:
- Responding to maintenance requests such as leaky faucets, broken locks or minor electrical issues
- Performing routine inspections of doors, windows, lighting and plumbing to identify wear or potential hazards
- Completing basic repairs, including plumbing issues, replacing damaged tiles or adjusting door hinges
- Assisting with minor upgrades like painting walls, mounting shelves or installing whiteboards
- Organizing and maintaining tools, equipment and supply rooms to ensure quick access and clean work areas
- Supporting other maintenance or janitorial staff with larger repairs or seasonal tasks
- Following safety procedures when handling tools, ladders or cleaning chemicals
- Documenting completed tasks and reporting recurring issues to supervisors
Qualifications
- Prior experience in janitorial or custodial services within healthcare, long-term care, or commercial cleaning environments is highly preferred.
- Knowledge of cleaning techniques specific to floor care, carpet cleaning, buffing, and environmental services is essential.
- Ability to operate cleaning equipment such as buffers, extractors, vacuums, and floor scrubbers safely and effectively.
- Strong attention to detail with a commitment to maintaining high standards of cleanliness and safety.
- Excellent time management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks efficiently throughout your shift.
- Physical stamina to stand for extended periods, lift moderate loads, bend, kneel, and perform repetitive cleaning motions comfortably.
