South Suburban Montessori School is currently seeking a full time Preschool Assistant Teacher to join our team in Brecksville, OH. In this position you will support the Lead Teacher in creating and maintaining a safe, secure, and comfortable toddler environment based on Montessori pedagogy and consistent with Montessori principles for children 3 years to 6 years of age. Your goal is to support the Lead Teacher in cultivating each child’s own natural desire to learn and to guide children toward self-reliance and self-sufficiency.

Essential Functions:
- Support creation and maintenance of a safe, secure, comfortable, respectful, peaceful and healthy environment that stimulates each child’s natural curiosity and allows for freedom to explore and choose within limits. Oversee and guide socialization.
- Guide or redirect each child to maintain classroom environment and culture consistent with Montessori principles. Support the Lead Teacher in keeping children engaged.
- Assist in organizing and maintaining the beauty and cleanliness of classroom materials to implement lessons; adapt materials and information to the actual learners; assure freedom of choice and appropriate levels of stimulation within limits.
- Collaborate with the Lead Teacher, Head of School and parents to address disruptive, aggressive or inappropriate behavior.
- Support and reinforce work of the Lead Teacher by discussing which child may need redirection, new lessons, and other assistance.
- Assure safety and security of all children during school hours of work, rest, and play.
- Sustain positive relationships and regular communications with parents, colleagues and the Head of School.
- Attend board, parent, and/or staff meetings as requested. Participate in special events.
- Maintain continuing education requirements.
Specific Experience/Skills/Abilities:
- In-depth creative, analytical and planning skills.
- Communication skills: demonstrated ability to speak and write concisely and accurately, demonstrated ability to listen and process others’ points of view.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities within specific schedule and time frames.
- Computer proficiency: basic understanding of Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of records, parent/child matters, and school business.
Basic Requirements:
- One year experience working in a Montessori classroom environment preferred.
- Must hold at least hold a high school diploma. Associates degree preferred.
- Demonstrated willingness to further study, absorb, and implement Montessori philosophy.
