Job Title: Quality Engineer – Welding & Steel Fabrication
Location: Connersville, IN (On-site)
About the Role
We are seeking a Quality Engineer with strong experience in welding and steel fabrication to lead quality assurance activities across production. This role ensures compliance with AWS, ASME, ISO, and AISC standards, and drives continuous improvement in fabrication and welding processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain and improve the Quality Management System (ISO 9001)
- Ensure compliance with AWS D1.1/D1.6, ASME, and AISC standards
- Oversee welding procedures (WPS/PQR) and welder qualifications
- Review fabrication drawings, weld symbols, and GD&T requirements
- Manage inspection activities: dimensional checks, weld inspection, and NDE
- Lead root cause analysis (5 Why, Fishbone, DMAIC) for defects and non-conformances
- Ensure material traceability and certification compliance
- Approve final products prior to shipment
- Lead internal/external audits and corrective actions
- Collaborate with engineering, production, and customers on quality requirements
- Train and guide inspectors and shop-floor personnel
Must-Have Requirements (Strict Screening)
- 5+ years in welding quality / steel fabrication quality (mandatory)
- Strong knowledge of AWS D1.1 welding code
- Experience in steel fabrication processes (cutting, forming, machining, assembly)
- Ability to read fabrication drawings, weld symbols, and GD&T
- Experience with NDE methods (VT, UT, MT, etc.)
- Hands-on experience in quality inspections and root cause analysis
Preferred
- CWI (Certified Welding Inspector) or CWS certification
- Experience with ISO 9001 QMS
- Knowledge of AISC structural steel standards
- Background in lean manufacturing / continuous improvement
- Spanish language skills (plus)
Pay: $105,000.00 - $122,000.00 per year
