About the Role
BOSS Construction is seeking an experienced Construction Superintendent with a strong background in water treatment plants and mechanical systems to lead field operations on the San Juan Islands.
This role is ideal for a hands-on leader who thrives in complex infrastructure work and can successfully manage crews, subcontractors, and schedules in a remote project environment.
Project assignments will require you to stay on the island 3 to 4 nights a week. BOSS will provide ferry transportation and lodging for the duration of your assignment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead all on-site construction activities from mobilization through project completion
- Supervise and coordinate crews, subcontractors, and suppliers to ensure efficient workflow
- Oversee installation and commissioning of mechanical systems for wastewater treatment plants (piping, pumps, valves, process equipment, etc.)
- Develop and maintain short-term schedules (look-ahead planning) and manage daily production goals
- Ensure work is performed in accordance with project plans, specifications, and quality standards
- Proactively identify and resolve field issues to maintain schedule and budget
- Maintain a strong jobsite culture focused on safety, productivity, and teamwork
- Conduct daily safety meetings and enforce OSHA and company safety standards
- Coordinate inspections, testing, and startup activities for complex systems
- Communicate regularly with Project Managers regarding progress, risks, and resource needs
Qualifications
- Construction experience with significant time in a Superintendent or Foreman role
- Strong background in wastewater treatment plant construction and mechanical systems (required)
- Proven experience managing field operations, schedules, and subcontractors
- Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, and technical documents
- Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Experience with public works and heavy civil construction preferred
- Proficiency with construction documentation and basic software tools
- Reliable transportation and ability to travel to island project locations
Work Environment & Logistics
- Projects located throughout the San Juan Islands
- Ferry transportation and lodging provided by the company
- Extended on-island stays during active project phases (3 to 4 days)
- Outdoor work in varying weather conditions
