Direct Support Professional (DSP) – Community Living and Supports (CLS)

Job Description
New Beginnings Alliance is seeking compassionate, dependable, and motivated Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) to provide Community Living and Supports (CLS) services to individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD). CLS staff work one-on-one with individuals in their home and community to promote independence, develop daily living skills, increase community involvement, and help each person achieve their individualized goals through person-centered supports.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide one-on-one support to individuals receiving Community Living and Supports (CLS) services.
- Assist individuals in developing and maintaining independent living skills, including personal hygiene, meal preparation, housekeeping, budgeting, and medication reminders (as permitted by agency policy).
- Support individuals in accessing and participating in community activities such as shopping, recreation, volunteering, appointments, and other meaningful experiences.
- Teach and reinforce skills that promote independence, self-advocacy, communication, and decision-making.
- Implement individualized goals and strategies outlined in each person's Person-Centered Plan (PCP) and service plan.
- Encourage positive social interactions and meaningful community inclusion.
- Monitor each individual's health, safety, and well-being, reporting concerns promptly to supervisors.
- Provide transportation to community activities and appointments as required.
- Complete accurate and timely documentation, including service notes, progress documentation, mileage logs, and incident reports.
- Maintain confidentiality and comply with all agency policies, Medicaid regulations, and person-centered practices.
- Foster a safe, respectful, and supportive environment while promoting dignity, choice, and independence.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Experience working with individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD), behavioral health, or human services preferred.
- Valid North Carolina driver's license with a safe driving record.
- Reliable transportation and proof of automobile insurance.
- Ability to pass criminal background checks, drug screening, and other pre-employment requirements.
- CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire).
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Skills

- Ability to teach life skills while encouraging independence rather than completing tasks for individuals.
- Ability to remain calm and professional when responding to challenging behaviors.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Experience using Therap or other electronic documentation systems is preferred.
- Knowledge of person-centered thinking and trauma-informed care is a plus.
Pay: $18.00 per hour
