Carthage Water & Electric Plant is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Safety Manager to lead and continuously improve our workplace safety program.
This position plays an important role in protecting our employees, customers, and community. The Safety Manager will work across CWEP’s electric, water, wastewater, telecommunications, administrative, and support operations to identify hazards, strengthen safety practices, coordinate training, and promote a culture in which every employee takes ownership of safety.
Wage: $36.50–$43.80 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience

Location: Carthage, Missouri
What You’ll Do
- Develop and maintain safety policies, procedures, programs, and training.
- Conduct jobsite observations, facility inspections, audits, and hazard assessments.
- Coordinate training on electrical safety, arc flash, lockout/tagout, confined spaces, fall protection, work zones, first aid, and other safety topics.
- Investigate injuries, vehicle accidents, property damage, and near misses.
- Identify root causes and help departments implement corrective actions.
- Maintain OSHA logs, training records, inspection documents, and required reports.
- Coordinate workers’ compensation and return-to-work activities.
- Support CWEP’s Safety Committee and emergency preparedness efforts.
- Work directly with supervisors and employees to develop practical safety solutions.
- Stay informed about changes in safety regulations and industry practices.
- Exercise stop-work authority when a serious or immediate hazard is identified.
What We’re Looking For
- An associate degree in occupational safety or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- At least five years of progressively responsible safety experience.
- Knowledge of OSHA requirements and workplace hazard-control practices.
- Experience conducting inspections, investigations, and employee training.
- Strong communication, leadership, organization, and problem-solving abilities.
- A valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
Utility, construction, industrial, public works, water/wastewater, or telecommunications safety experience is strongly preferred. A bachelor’s degree and professional safety certifications such as CSP, ASP, CUSP, OHST, or CHST are also preferred.
