POSITION SUMMARY
Job Summary:
GP Transco is hiring a CDL-A Driver Trainer to serve as the lead presenter for the majority of our new-driver orientation program and provide hands-on training to new and current drivers.
This is a highly visible, practical training role for an experienced Class A commercial driver who enjoys teaching, coaching, and helping other drivers operate safely and confidently. The CDL-A Driver Trainer conducts classroom and behind-the-wheel instruction, administers orientation exams, performs road tests, evaluates driver skills, and provides additional retraining when drivers need focused support.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading the majority of new-driver orientation presentations, demonstrations, and examinations
- Conducting and documenting CDL Class A road tests and practical driving evaluations
- Training drivers on inspections, backing, defensive driving, hazard recognition, vehicle operation, and other required skills
- Providing individualized remedial or post-incident retraining
- Giving drivers clear, respectful, and actionable feedback
- Communicating driver qualification recommendations to Safety and Operations leadership
- Maintaining accurate training, testing, and retraining records
- Partnering with Safety, Recruiting, Operations, and Maintenance to provide a consistent driver experience
The ideal candidate will have:
- A valid CDL Class A
- Strong commercial driving experience; three or more years is preferred
- An acceptable driving record and the ability to meet company, insurance, and applicable DOT qualification requirements
- Experience training, coaching, evaluating, or mentoring drivers
- Working knowledge of FMCSA regulations and safe commercial vehicle operating practices
- Strong presentation, communication, observation, and documentation skills
- Patience, sound judgment, integrity, and the confidence to uphold consistent driver qualification standards
- A high school diploma or equivalent
Previous experience as a driver trainer, road-test examiner, driver mentor, or transportation safety professional is preferred.
Salary range: $60,000–$65,000 annually, depending on relevant experience, qualifications, and demonstrated training capability.
