Job Overview
We are seeking a highly capable, hands-on Cannabis Extraction Manager to lead daily extraction and post-processing operations in a regulated cannabis manufacturing facility. This role is responsible for safe, compliant, efficient production of high-quality cannabis extracts and concentrates, including hydrocarbon extraction, solvent recovery, winterization, distillation, formulation support, and finished-material inventory control.
The ideal candidate combines strong technical extraction knowledge with disciplined production management. They can train and lead a team, maintain exact batch records, troubleshoot equipment, improve yields and throughput, and uphold a culture of safety, cleanliness, quality, and regulatory compliance.
- Manage day-to-day extraction lab operations, production scheduling, staffing, workflow, and priorities.
- Operate, oversee, and maintain closed-loop hydrocarbon extraction and solvent-recovery systems.
- Lead post-processing activities, including crude handling, filtration, winterization, decarboxylation, distillation, remediation, blending, and bulk oil preparation.
- Ensure all extraction and processing work is completed in accordance with approved SOPs, state regulations, facility policies, and applicable fire, safety, and hazardous-material requirements.
- Maintain complete batch records, production logs, inventory reconciliation, equipment logs, cleaning records, and deviation/corrective-action documentation.
- Monitor extraction performance, yields, solvent recovery, production loss, labor utilization, and quality metrics; identify and implement practical process improvements.
- Train, coach, schedule, and evaluate extraction technicians and support staff.
- Establish accountability for PPE use, chemical handling, housekeeping, sanitation, waste management, and safe work practices.
- Coordinate with compliance, quality, cultivation, manufacturing, packaging, and inventory teams to maintain material flow and production timelines.
- Manage extraction inputs, solvents, consumables, filters, lab supplies, and critical spare parts.
- Coordinate preventative maintenance, calibration, repairs, and service with internal personnel and outside vendors.
- Investigate equipment issues, process deviations, failed test results, contamination risks, or yield losses; implement corrective and preventive actions.
- Support new product development, extraction-method development, and scale-up of new concentrate or infused-product formats.
- Maintain a clean, organized, inspection-ready lab environment.
Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years of hands-on cannabis extraction experience, preferably including hydrocarbon extraction and post-processing.
- Minimum 1–2 years of supervisory, lead, or production-management experience.
- Demonstrated experience operating closed-loop hydrocarbon extraction equipment, solvent recovery systems, vacuum ovens, filtration systems, decarb equipment, distillation equipment, and related lab tools.
- Experience managing a Class 1 Division 1 extraction environment.
- Strong understanding of cannabis extraction chemistry, terpene preservation, solvent handling, remediation, distillation, and concentrate quality standards.
- Experience working in a regulated cannabis, food, pharmaceutical, chemical, or GMP-style manufacturing environment.
- Proven ability to create, follow, revise, and train team members on SOPs and batch documentation.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to troubleshoot extraction equipment and process issues.
- Excellent organizational skills, inventory discipline, and attention to detail.
- Comfortable using spreadsheets, production-tracking systems, seed-to-sale software, and digital documentation platforms.
- Ability to safely lift up to 50 pounds and work in a production/laboratory environment.
- Must meet all state and company requirements to work in a licensed cannabis facility.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with ethanol extraction, short-path or wiped-film distillation, CRC/media remediation, or terpene separation and reintroduction.
- Familiarity with fire-code requirements, hazardous-material handling, SDS programs, and chemical hygiene practices.
- Degree or technical background in chemistry, chemical engineering, manufacturing, biology, or a related discipline.
- Experience with product formulation, bulk-oil specifications, and transfer of extract into vape, edible, tincture, capsule, or concentrate production.
