MYP Mathematics Teacher (Grades 6-8)
Position Summary
Valley Inquiry Charter School is seeking a passionate, reflective, and student-centered educator to serve as a Middle Years Program (MYP) Mathematics Teacher for students in grades 6-8. As an International Baccalaureate (IB) Candidate School implementing the Middle Years Program, Valley Inquiry is committed to fostering inquiry, critical thinking, problem-solving, and conceptual understanding through authentic and meaningful learning experiences.
The successful candidate will facilitate engaging, inquiry-based mathematics learning experiences that help students develop mathematical reasoning, conceptual understanding, procedural fluency, and real-world application skills. Through the MYP framework, students will explore mathematical relationships, communicate mathematical thinking, analyze data, solve complex problems, and develop confidence as learners.
This position focuses on mathematics instruction for students in grades 6-8 and may include an advisory or elective assignment based on school needs and candidate qualifications.

Salary
Salary range: $43,757.99–$68,218.44 depending on years of teaching experience, licensure, endorsements, education, and contracted hours.
Essential ResponsibilitiesMathematics Instruction
- Design and facilitate engaging, inquiry-based learning experiences aligned with MYP Mathematics objectives and Oregon Mathematics Standards.
- Develop students' conceptual understanding, mathematical reasoning, problem-solving abilities, and procedural fluency.
- Utilize adopted curricular resources as a foundation for instruction while designing inquiry-based, concept-driven learning experiences aligned with MYP objectives, global contexts, and the IB philosophy.
- Support students in making meaningful connections between mathematics and real-world applications.
- Foster critical thinking, perseverance, collaboration, and reflective learning practices.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse learning needs of students.
- Integrate MYP Approaches to Learning (ATL) skills throughout instruction.
- Promote student agency through inquiry, reflection, goal-setting, and ownership of learning.
Assessment and Student Growth
- Utilize formative and summative assessment practices aligned with MYP Mathematics criteria.
- Provide timely and meaningful feedback that supports student growth and achievement.
- Analyze student learning data to inform instructional decision-making.
- Support students in self-assessment, reflection, and goal-setting.
- Maintain accurate records of student progress and achievement.
Learning Environment and Student Relationships
- Establish a safe, inclusive, and engaging classroom environment that promotes belonging, collaboration, and intellectual risk-taking.
- Build positive relationships with students that support academic, social, and emotional growth.
- Implement restorative and proactive approaches to classroom management.
- Foster a classroom culture that values curiosity, persistence, collaboration, and a growth mindset.
Collaboration and Professional Growth
- Collaborate with MYP colleagues, specialists, support staff, and administrators to strengthen student learning and school culture.
- Participate in collaborative planning, Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), and school improvement initiatives.
- Engage in ongoing professional development related to mathematics instruction, IB philosophy, inquiry-based learning, and adolescent development.
- Reflect on instructional practices and use feedback to continually improve effectiveness.
Family and Community Partnerships
- Maintain regular communication with families regarding student growth and achievement.
- Foster positive partnerships with families and community members.
- Support opportunities for students to apply mathematical thinking through authentic learning experiences and community connections when appropriate.
School Contributions
- Participate in school-wide activities, field experiences, service-learning projects, exhibitions, and special events.
- Fulfill assigned supervision duties and responsibilities.
- Contribute positively to the mission, vision, and culture of Valley Inquiry Charter School.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Education, Mathematics, Mathematics Education, or a related field.
- Valid Oregon Teaching License or ability to obtain licensure prior to employment.
- Candidates without a current Oregon teaching license may be eligible for a Charter Registry Teaching License and are encouraged to apply.
- Demonstrated ability to build positive relationships with middle school students.
- Strong communication, collaboration, organizational, and classroom management skills.
Preferred
- Oregon endorsement in Mathematics or Middle-Level Mathematics.
- Experience teaching middle school mathematics.
- Experience with the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (MYP) or other inquiry-based educational models.
- Experience supporting diverse learners through differentiated instruction.
- Training or experience in culturally responsive teaching and restorative practices.
- Bilingual or multilingual skills, particularly in Spanish, are highly valued and considered an asset in supporting communication and partnership with families, but are not required.
- Master's degree or advanced coursework in mathematics, mathematics education, curriculum, or a related field.
