Job Title: Culinary Arts Coordinator/Cafe Manager
Organizational Overview: The Laurel Center is dedicated to making a positive impact on our community by providing essential services to support survivors of domestic and sexual violence. The Center, as part of its workforce program, renovated an old freight building to serve a community Café. The Café will provide hands on workplace training and skill development to survivors of abuse, while providing the community with a unique and delicious dinning experience.
Position Overview: The role is a unique mix of fast-past café skills and fulfilling relationship-building by way of paid training and employee development. The Culinary Arts Coordinator/Cafe Manager will bring essential skills to the supported employment environment of The Railway Café. In addition to managing this start-up business, the Culinary Arts Coordinator/Cafe Manager will train survivors of violence to prepare and serve food and drinks, and other skills, while managing the daily operations of the Café. This role requires flexibility, creativity, and commitment in creating a positive, learning environment with clear, specific, timely and respectful coaching efforts.
Key Responsibilities:
· Manage day-to-day operations of the Café
· Assist with permits and licenses
· Train staff on proper customer service skills, safety procedures, cleanliness of work areas and job expectations
· Coordinate, in conjunction with Café Chef, vendors and the ordering of supplies as needed
· Maintain updated records of daily, weekly and monthly revenue and expenses
· Set up POS system to manage sales, customer reward programs, inventory, marketing and rapid pickup/online sales
· Nurture friendly relationships with customers to increase loyalty and boost our reputation
· Adhere to all food safety standard operating procedures, provide staff training, ensure staff are following procedures, and oversee all visits from the Health Department
· Ensure that the café operates in line with the mission of The Laurel Center
Qualifications:
· Work experience as a Café Manager and Barista
· Organizational skills pertaining to inventory management and accounting
· Experience with operating a POS system
· Training and development experience required
· Excellent communication skills with the ability to manage and motivate a team
· Customer service attitude
· Strong time management skills
· Must be Food Protection Manager Certified
· High School diploma or GED Certificate
