Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Public Health, Health Education, Environmental Health, Occupational Safety, Nursing, Early Childhood Education, Human Services, or a closely related field preferred.
- Associate degree with relevant experience may be considered.
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience in health and safety, childcare, early childhood education, healthcare, public health, or regulatory compliance.
- Experience working in Head Start, Early Head Start, childcare, healthcare, or nonprofit organizations preferred.
- Knowledge of health and safety regulations and best practices.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to train, coach, and provide technical assistance to staff.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint).
- Ability to travel between multiple program locations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Head Start Program Performance Standards.
- Knowledge of childcare licensing regulations.
- OSHA training or workplace safety certification.
- CPR/First Aid Instructor certification (or ability to obtain).
- Experience conducting inspections, audits, or compliance reviews.
Position Summary
The Health & Safety Coordinator is responsible for coordinating and monitoring health, safety, sanitation, emergency preparedness, and regulatory compliance activities for the agency's Head Start and Early Head Start programs. This position works collaboratively with center leadership, education staff, family services, and community partners to ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations while maintaining safe learning environments for children and staff.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Monitor compliance with Head Start Program Performance Standards, childcare licensing requirements, OSHA standards, and agency policies.
- Conduct routine health and safety inspections of classrooms, playgrounds, kitchens, buses, and facilities.
- Identify hazards and develop corrective action plans to address deficiencies.
- Coordinate and maintain emergency preparedness and evacuation plans.
- Monitor accident, incident, injury, and illness reporting and conduct follow-up investigations.
- Ensure required health and safety documentation is maintained accurately and timely.
- Assist with infection prevention and communicable disease control procedures.
- Coordinate health and safety training for new and existing staff.
- Collaborate with local health departments, emergency management agencies, and community healthcare providers.
- Assist in monitoring environmental health concerns including indoor air quality, sanitation, pest management, and playground safety.
- Review and monitor child health records for compliance with required screenings, immunizations, and physical examinations.
- Support classroom staff in implementing health and safety best practices.
- Assist during federal, state, and licensing monitoring reviews.
- Prepare reports and maintain records related to compliance activities.
- Participate in agency committees and quality improvement initiatives.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Pay: $55,393.62 - $66,710.59 per year
