Responsibilities
- Greet patients warmly, verify their information, and check them in using electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Epic, Meditech, or Athenahealth.
- Schedule appointments accurately using medical scheduling software and coordinate follow-up visits.
- Collect and process payments, insurance claims, and perform medical collections while adhering to HIPAA guidelines.
- Manage patient records by updating medical history, documenting care plans, and reviewing documentation for accuracy.
- Assist with clinical administrative support including filing, data entry, and maintaining organized medical records.
- Handle phone communication professionally, providing excellent patient service while managing inquiries about appointments or insurance.
- Ensure compliance with clinical confidentiality policies and health information management standards across all tasks.
Skills
- Proficiency in EMR/EHR systems such as Epic, Meditech, eClinicalWorks, or Athenahealth for documentation review and record management.
- Knowledge of medical billing procedures including CPT coding (Current Procedural Terminology), ICD-9/10 coding (International Classification of Diseases), and Medicare requirements.
- Strong computer skills with experience in Microsoft Office Suite for administrative tasks like typing, filing, and data entry.
- Excellent customer service skills with phone etiquette and the ability to communicate clearly with diverse patient populations; bilingual abilities are a plus.
- Clinic experience or medical office experience demonstrating familiarity with front desk operations, appointment scheduling, and health insurance processes.
- Understanding of clinical confidentiality policies aligned with HIPAA standards to protect patient privacy at all times.
- Ability to perform clerical duties such as filing, 10-key typing, and managing electronic health records efficiently.
- Strong organizational skills coupled with attention to detail in documentation review and care plan coordination.
