The Shop Supervisor will oversee the operations of a workshop or facility specializing in aerial equipment, such as bucket trucks, digger derricks and trailers. This role will be involved in managing a team of technicians and mechanics, coordinating workflow, ensuring safety compliance, and maintaining efficient operations. Expertise in aerial equipment will be essential in troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining such equipment, and providing technical guidance to the team.
Primary Responsibilities:
· Leadership and Team Management:
o Supervises and provides technical guidance to a team of technicians and mechanics working on aerial equipment.
o Assigns tasks, set priorities, and monitor the progress of projects to ensure efficient completion.
o Trains and develops shop personnel, ensuring their technical skills and knowledge align with industry best practices.
o Fosters a positive work environment, promotes teamwork, and resolves conflicts or issues among team members.
· Workflow Coordination and Planning:
o Coordinates daily operations, including receiving work orders, scheduling tasks, and allocating resources effectively.
o Ensures that projects and repairs are completed within the defined timelines, while meeting quality standards.
o Collaborates with other departments, such as procurement or engineering, to optimize workflow and resource utilization.
o Monitors inventory levels of spare parts and consumables and coordinates timely procurement to avoid disruptions.
· Aerial Equipment Maintenance and Repair:
o Utilizes expertise in aerial equipment to troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair mechanical or electrical issues.
o Conducts routine inspections and maintenance on aerial equipment to ensure optimal performance and compliance with safety regulations.
o Coordinates repairs or maintenance activities, either in-house or by working with external vendors, to minimize downtime.
o Documents equipment maintenance, repairs, and inspections accurately, maintaining comprehensive records.
· Quality Assurance and Safety Compliance:
o Establishes and enforces quality control measures to ensure aerial equipment is maintained and repaired to industry standards.
o Implements safety protocols and procedures and ensures that all personnel adhere to them to minimize risks.
o Conducts regular safety inspections and audits, identifying and addressing any potential hazards or non-compliance.
o Investigates accidents, incidents, or near misses, and implements corrective actions to prevent future occurrences.
· Documentation and Reporting:
o Prepares reports on equipment maintenance, repairs, and inspections, providing accurate and timely information.
o Maintains documentation related to equipment history, warranties, service manuals, and other relevant records.
o Communicates effectively with management and other stakeholders, providing updates on shop operations, projects, and any critical issues.
o Identifies opportunities for process improvements, cost savings, or enhanced productivity, and provides recommendations.
Requires Skills/Abilities:
· Strong knowledge of aerial equipment operations, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair procedures.
· Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical manuals, schematics, and electrical or hydraulic diagrams.
· Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
· Strong communication and interpersonal skills to interact with team members, customers, and vendors.
· Demonstrated problem-solving abilities, with a proactive approach to identifying and resolving technical issues.
· Thorough understanding of safety regulations and best practices in the aerial equipment industry.
· Proficiency in using computer systems and software, including MS Office or shop management software.
· CDL required or obtained within 12 months after being hired.
· Knowledge of DOT requirements and standards.
Education and Experience:
· High school diploma or equivalent
· Technical or vocational degree in mechanical engineering or a related field is preferred.
· Extensive experience (5 years minimum) working with aerial equipment, such as cranes, lifts, or similar heavy machinery.
· Proven leadership experience in a shop or workshop environment, preferably in the aerial equipment industry.
