Boss, Inc. is partnering with a growing organization in Norfolk, Virginia, to identify an experienced Regional Controller. This leadership role is responsible for overseeing regional accounting operations, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial reporting, and providing meaningful financial insights that support business performance. The ideal candidate is a technically strong accounting professional who enjoys leading people, improving processes, and partnering with operational leaders across the business.
Key Responsibilities
· Lead and support the monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial close process.
· Review and reconcile balance sheet accounts, including intercompany transactions.
· Analyze general ledger activity and ensure the accuracy of profit and loss and balance sheet reporting.
· Prepare, review, and approve journal entries, recurring entries, and subledger adjustments while maintaining thorough supporting documentation.
· Oversee revenue recognition activities, particularly for utility operations and key customer accounts.
· Monitor contract assets (unbilled revenue) and contract liabilities (deferred revenue) to ensure compliance with customer agreements.
· Provide oversight of billing operations to promote timely and accurate revenue recognition.
· Manage the accounts receivable function, including monitoring DSO and collection performance.
· Review project cost allocations, including fuel, depreciation, and overhead expenses.
· Ensure job costing is accurate and supports effective project financial reporting.
· Identify opportunities to streamline accounting processes and implement operational improvements.
· Coach, mentor, and develop members of the accounting team while fostering a collaborative work environment.
· Partner with Operations, Contracts, Human Resources, and other departments to provide financial guidance and support.
· Maintain and strengthen internal controls, accounting procedures, and financial policies.
· Serve as the primary accounting contact during annual external audits.
· Lead or participate in special projects and other initiatives as assigned.
· Supervise a small accounting team.
Qualifications
· Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required.
· Six or more years of progressively responsible accounting experience, ideally within a growing or mid-sized organization.
· Previous experience leading or mentoring accounting staff.
· Strong understanding of financial reporting, general ledger accounting, account reconciliations, revenue recognition, and job costing.
· Experience working in a private equity-backed environment is a plus, but not required.
· CPA designation is preferred, but not required.
Pay: $125,000.00 - $145,000.00 per year
