Duties
- Assist with patient intake, including collecting medical histories and vital signs such as blood pressure, pulse, and temperature
- Prepare examination rooms and ensure all necessary supplies and equipment are ready for patient visits
- Support physicians with procedures such as phlebotomy, medication administration, and basic life support during emergencies
- Manage electronic health records (EHR/EHR systems), athena, epic, ensuring accurate documentation of patient encounters, medical records, and procedural notes
- Conduct basic physiology assessments and apply knowledge of anatomy to assist with diagnosis and treatment planning
- Perform ICD coding for diagnoses and procedures to ensure proper billing and record keeping
- Facilitate patient education on medications, treatment plans, and health management strategies
- Maintain clinical cleanliness, sterilization protocols, and compliance with healthcare regulations
Requirements
- Proven experience as a Medical Assistant or in a similar outpatient or hospital setting with familiarity in dermatology, urgent care, or hospital medicine preferred
- Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, and ICD coding standards
- Hands-on experience with EMR/EHR systems and electronic health records management
- Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) or equivalent required; additional certifications such as phlebotomy or medication administration are advantageous
- Strong patient service skills with the ability to communicate clearly and empathetically across diverse populations
- Inpatient or Level I/II trauma center experience highly desirable for those interested in emergency medicine roles
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure in fast-paced environments including outpatient clinics or hospital units
- Geriatrics experience is a plus for serving aging populations effectively
