Position Summary
The Emergency Vehicle Upfitter / Automotive Electrical Technician is responsible for installing, wiring, programming, fabricating, troubleshooting, and testing emergency vehicle equipment and accessories. This position requires strong automotive electrical knowledge and the ability to work independently while maintaining high-quality workmanship.
Responsibilities
- Install emergency lighting, sirens, controllers, and warning systems
- Install radios, antennas, mobile data terminals, camera systems, and communication equipment
- Install vehicle consoles, partitions, weapon mounts, storage systems, and specialty equipment
- Build and install custom wiring harnesses
- Read and interpret wiring diagrams and schematics
- Troubleshoot automotive electrical systems and diagnose wiring issues
- Program emergency lighting and electronic control systems
- Disassemble and reassemble vehicle interiors as needed
- Perform light fabrication, drilling, cutting, grinding, and mounting of equipment
- Test and inspect completed installations for quality and functionality
- Maintain a clean and organized work area
- Complete projects efficiently while meeting company quality standards
Qualifications
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
- Strong understanding of automotive electrical systems and wiring
- Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams and schematics
- Experience using hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Ability to lift up to 75 pounds
- Reliable transportation and strong work ethic
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with emergency vehicle upfitting
- Automotive electrical, car audio, fleet, or accessory installation experience
- Welding and fabrication experience
- Knowledge of CAN Bus systems and vehicle networking
- Experience with Whelen, Feniex, SoundOff Signal, Havis, Setina, Motorola, Kenwood, or similar products
- Experience working on Ford, Chevrolet, Dodge/Ram, and commercial fleet vehicles
