What to Expect
Tesla’s 4680 team’s goal is to change the cell manufacturing industry by making the most energy dense and cost-effective battery cells in the most cutting edge, compact and energy efficient factories in the world. Tesla is looking for a highly motivated Technical Program Manager to help manage the deployment of capacity expansion projects and validate our factory engineering designs and processes.
This individual will be responsible for supporting the design and execution of 4680 cell production factories as part of the Factory Development team. The successful candidate will have a background in running technical projects/programs and be eager to carry out a variety of engineering and project management tasks from factory concept derivation, utility modelling/forecasting, creating/maintaining schedules and in-field co-ordination of contractors and Tesla personnel.
The individual will possess the ability to use (or rapidly learn) project management software such as Primavera (P6) to plan out Factory upgrades / expansions while being eager to learn about how cells are manufactured and how factories are built.
What You'll Do
Develop an understanding of our factory design and manufacturing processes, defining factory requirements, layouts, and goals
Be the bridge that secures program alignment between the large cross functional team needed to design, plan, and build a manufacturing factory. Notably, various manufacturing teams, production, factory engineering, construction, facilities, material flow, workplace & people spaces, and more
In field coordination with other process, mechanical, electrical and support disciplines including project managers, manufacturing reps, and other stakeholders
Own / maintain the manufacturing deployment schedule for capacity expansions using scheduling & cost modeling software (Primavera P6)
Field Verification - Measuring key factory process parameters in field to validate designs / trouble shoot
Construction Checklists / walk downs – Act as MFG representative holding factory construction team accountable to space turnover checklists
Sustaining factory improvement projects - Follow up and drive to completion
What You'll Bring
Degree in Engineering OR equivalent experience and evidence of exceptional ability
Engineering experience on manufacturing and industrial projects from concept to delivery
Experience and understanding of building and manufacturing facilities design and construction
Experience building project schedules with software such as Primavera P6 / MS Project
Excellent communication and documentation skills with the ability to understand complex problems and distill the message into a clear plan
Positive, enthusiastic, fast learner, can-do mindset and passionate about manufacturing infrastructure
Thrives under pressure and in ambiguous environments
Subcontractor and consulting engineer management experience
Cylindrical cell manufacturing experience preferred but not required
