Primary Responsibilities
- Perform a variety of duties related to the fabrication and assembly of mechanical components for larger assemblies.
- Set up and test complete prototype units and subassemblies under operational conditions.
- Analyze test data and recommend modifications to components or test procedures to meet required specifications.
- Assist mechanical engineers with the development of mechanical and electromechanical designs, testing, fabrication, assemblies, and components.
- Perform manufacturing operations, including working with engineers on setup and calibration tasks, rework, and quality testing of parts, components, subassemblies, and final assemblies.
- Use software tools to collect and evaluate operating data and make real-time adjustments to products, instruments, or equipment.
- Determine and assist in developing methods and procedures to control or modify manufacturing processes.
- Handle and manage fragile composite materials safely and appropriately.
- Document the usage, traceability, pot life, and out-time controls for all adhesive materials used.
- Report manufacturing and test data and communicate effectively with other employees and departments.
- Read and understand manufacturing and engineering drawings, schematics, and shop planning documentation.
- Assist in maintaining overall shop appearance, organization, and cleanliness.
- Follow all applicable manufacturing, quality, safety, and operational procedures.
Basic Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED, plus at least 2 years of additional education and/or related experience.
- Ability to read, write, and follow instructions written in English.
- Ability to lift, push, and/or pull up to 40 pounds.
- Ability to remain on your feet for extended periods during the workday.
- Ability to work flexible hours, overtime, and different shifts based on manufacturing requirements.
- Demonstrated initiative, adaptability, self-motivation, and commitment to excellence.
- Ability to navigate and work within a Microsoft Office environment, including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
- Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and ability.
- Ability to read and follow directions provided in engineering drawings and/or schematics.
- Familiarity with proper hand-tool techniques and safety practices, including the use of wrenches, screwdrivers, and similar tools.
- Familiarity with torque concepts and proper torque application.
Preferred Qualifications
- Proficiency using electronic test equipment, including:
- DC power supplies
- Digital multimeters (DMMs)
- Source meters
- Proficiency with basic shop mathematics and arithmetic.
- Experience or familiarity with ISO requirements, standards, and compliance.
- Experience operating or working around cranes, rigging equipment, forklifts, and similar manufacturing equipment.
- Experience with soldering.
- J-Standard certification or familiarity with applicable J-STD requirements.
