Job Summary
We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our finance team. In this vital role, you will be responsible for managing core accounting functions, ensuring compliance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles), and supporting financial reporting processes. Duties
- Prepare and analyze journal entries, account reconciliations, and balance sheet schedules to ensure accuracy and completeness of financial data
- Manage accounts payable and receivable processes using financial software such as QuickBooks, Xero, Sage, or similar systems
- Conduct detailed general ledger accounting and ensure adherence to GAAP standards and internal controls, including SOX compliance where applicable
- Assist with month-end and year-end closing procedures, including bank reconciliations and financial statement preparation
- Support payroll management activities using systems like ADP, Workday, UltiPro, Ceridian, or Kronos; ensure timely processing of payroll data
- Perform data entry tasks with high accuracy, utilizing Excel data analysis skills for reporting and audit purposes
- Handle confidential information with integrity while maintaining meticulous records in accounting systems such as PeopleSoft or Microsoft Office spreadsheets
- Collaborate with internal teams on budgeting, account analysis, and financial concepts to support strategic decision-making
- Participate in internal audits and external audits by providing necessary documentation and explanations related to account activity
Experience
- Proven accounting experience with a strong understanding of corporate accounting principles and governmental accounting practices
- Hands-on experience with financial software such as QuickBooks, Xero, Sage, PeopleSoft, or similar platforms; familiarity with ADP or Ceridian payroll systems is a plus
- Knowledge of SOX compliance requirements and experience working within internal control frameworks
- Demonstrated ability in account reconciliation, journal entries, balance sheet analysis, and general ledger management
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite—especially Excel—for data analysis and report generation
- Experience in public accounting or non-profit accounting environments is advantageous
- Excellent numeracy skills combined with attention to detail; capable of handling high-volume data entry accurately
- Effective communication skills for customer service-oriented interactions with internal teams and external vendors
